If you didn’t watch the Tuesday House Oversight Committee hearing involving those IT individuals with intimate knowledge of the Clinton servers, you most likely heard that it was a bust; nothing new and witnesses took the Fifth Amendment. Wrong!
Two Platt River Networks employees did refuse to testify, but Chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) took the opportunity to reveal that one of their fellow employees was obviously concerned about the e-mail investigation.
When news broke that the FBI was looking into the security of the servers, a Platt employee wrote to a coworker that he was “Starting to think this whole thing really is covering up some shaddy (sic) s**t.” He went on to say, “I just think if we have it in writing that they told us to cut the backups, and that we can go public with our statement saying we have backups since day one, then we were told to trim to 30days (sic), it would make us look a WHOLE LOT better.” Hmmmmm.
The order to destroy the e-mails was all done on the phone.
During testimony by Justin Cooper, a long-time employee of the Clinton’s, who set up and managed servers at the residences in Chappaqua and Washington DC, he revealed that he did not have a security clearance. Likewise, Chelsea Clinton, who had access to the computers. Unbelievable.
Chaffetz expressed disappointment in Bryan Pagliano’s refusal to appear before the committee. Pagliano set up Clinton’s e-mail system and was given immunity by the Department of Justice in March, which should have enabled him to testify without fear of self-incrimination. It caused Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) to wonder out loud if the DOJ immunity did not extend to Congressional testimony, which would be further evidence of the corruption in the Obama administration.
One bit of old news did surface from Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), who again scolded Republican committee members for another hearing designed for the sole purpose of attacking Hillary Clinton politically.
