Some observations from the news

There’s been a whirlwind of post-election news, primarily surrounding the transition of President Elect Donald Trump and his appointments, so I thought I would touch on some things you may have missed because, frankly, I think most of you have tuned-out since Nov. 8. I agree, the campaign was too long.

DRAINING THE SWAMP – I have observed that Trump’s pledge to “drain the swamp” is misunderstood by the media.  By their interpretation, some are citing that his billionaire cabinet appointees from the establishment are examples of him breaking that pledge, when the pledge is so much broader. “On Nov. 8th, the arrogance of Washington DC will come face to face with the righteous verdict of the American voter,” Trump said in October. “Decades of failure in Washington, and decades of special interest dealing must come to an end. We have to break the cycle of corruption, and we have to give new voices a chance to go into government service.”

MUCH IS BEING MADE of the billionaires slated for Trump’s cabinet, but wouldn’t you rather have someone working for you who has been a success at working for his or herself?

CIA Director John Brennan cautions Trump administration on Iranian nuclear agreement. (voanews.com)

“I THINK IT WOULD BE THE HEIGHT OF FOLLY if the next administration were to tear up that (Iran nuclear) agreement,” said CIA Director John Brennan in an interview with the BBC, “I think it would be disastrous … it really would.” Thanks, John, but I trust Trump and his foreign policy advisors – Gen. James Mattis, Maj. Gen. Mike Flynn, K.T. McFarland and his secretary of state, yet to be named, to thoroughly review the flawed Obama-Kerry Iranian agreement and decide on its future.

OBAMA CONTINUES TO PUMP OUT REGULATIONS as his regulators have proposed keeping intact tougher fuel economy standards calling for vehicles averaging 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. As I wrote in my post, “It’s time to get the government out of auto manufacturing,” Nov. 14, I’m hoping Trump will instruct his EPA to pull back on this and other costly agency regulations.  The Obama administration is pressing ahead with more rules and regulation in the finals weeks to force the Trump team to choose which ones are worth the time and effort of reversal.  LOL

NANCY PELOSI – The 76-year old House Minority Leader took to the lectern after being returned to office, stating she had an extra spring in her step after the victory. While she was wearing a big smile, she surely knows the natives are restless on the left side as nearly a third of her party voted for the challenger Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH). “I am deeply disappointed today, as the House Democratic Caucus has decided to double down on its failed strategy of recent years,” wrote Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) citing that it was time for critical reflection and clear-eyed change. Personally, I’m happy Pelosi and the Democrat party are so inept.   It will be interesting to see if Pelosi still has that spring in her step in Trump’s first 100 days.

David Gergan, an “old Washington” commentator, is still in denial over Trump’s victory. (elon.edu)

COUNT “OLD WASHINGTON” COMMENTATOR DAVID GERGAN among the left’s latest whiners who are still in denial about their candidate’s loss to Trump. Appearing on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 just minutes after the president elect’s thank you rally in Cincinnati Thursday, Gergan said, “This is goodbye to American leadership in the world. It’s goodbye to globalization. He’s bringing America home. He’s going to lead a nativist, nationalistic, populist movement and if you want to join up with him fine, if you don’t , forget it.”

SGT BOWE BERGDAHL, scheduled to go on trial in May 2017, has reportedly written to President Obama requesting a pardon. Trump would be unable to reverse that pardon if Obama does so.

I’M TRULY EXCITED about the aggressive agenda Trump has outlined for his first 100 days in office.  I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people with his go big, go bold plan.
