Every newspaper has one

Traditional left-leaning newspapers all have an insufferable social justice columnist, who seeks out individuals or issues that tug on their proverbial injustice robe and tries to right a wrong with their infinite wisdom.

The Arizona Republic, an endorser of Hillary Clinton for president, has two such columnists, E. J. Montini and Laurie Roberts.

“Someone needs to get word to Donald Trump that he was elected president, not emperor, and that contrary to what those little voices in his head are telling him in the dead of night, this is still America,” Roberts wrote. It was her response to Trump’s belief that those who burn the American flag be fined and jailed.

Many of us feel that way, and so did Judge Antonin Scalia when he declared it was protected by the First Amendment. But in Roberts’ mind, Trump was not permitted to have that belief.

She went on to criticize Trump for wasting his time on the trivial when he should be focused on other things, like a nominee for Health and Human Services and his plan for repeal and replacing ObamaCare.

She is absolutely oblivious of the 12 to 16-hour days Trump is working with his transition team interviewing cabinet candidates, reviewing domestic and foreign policy drafts, and dealing with those unexpected issues that surface. All while taking time to meet with GOP leadership in Washington and thanking voters at rallies in Indiana and Ohio.

Roberts seems to want credit for saying, “I said a couple weeks ago that we need to give Trump a chance,” but then hastens to say, “Well, given his start, I’m guessing we’re going to see a lot of American flags reduced to ash in the coming four years.”

“Sheesh, this guy gets more bizarre by the moment,” she concludes. Wait until she experiences the first 100 days.

We can add Laurie Roberts to the list of those in denial that Hillary Clinton, her partner in social justice, lost.
