Here are my comments on some items in the news.
THOSE POOR OVERWORKED CONGRESSMEN – They’re generally in Washington Tuesdays through Thursdays, but Sen. Chuck Schumer is voicing concern over the pressure being placed on members to complete the confirmation process on all of the cabinet nominees. “Members will have to run from one hearing to another,” Schumer whined. Boo Hoo! They could learn what it means to work if they put in the hours of President Elect Donald Trump, who conducted rallies in Florida, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Michigan in a 16-hour period beginning mid-morning on Nov. 7, 2016 and ending with the 1 a.m. rally in Grand Rapids on Election Day. And he has been putting in 12 to 16-hour days since winning the election in New York, Florida and Washington, taking time to visit a number of states on his “thank you” tour.
NO SILVER BULLET – How interesting it was to hear Sylvia Mathews Burwell defend ObamaCare, while poking holes in the Republican plan to repeal and replace it in an appearance before the National Press Club. “As for silver bullets, they don’t exist,” she said. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.” Ironically, Burwell was nominated in 2014 to replace the resigning Kathleen Sebelius, who often spoke of the health insurance plan in “silver bullet” terms. Rep. (Dr.) Tom Price (R.GA) has been selected to lead the effort to replace ObamaCare as the new head of HHS.
PRESIDENT OBAMA gave his farewell address from Chicago last night, and I suffered through his last rambling sermon, filled with myths of his success in office. He goes out with an approval rating of 55 per cent, but 67 per cent of us believed his agenda was on the wrong track. It explains why he was unable to help Hillary Clinton continue his agenda.
A CREATIVE RESPONSE – Tom Shillue a comedian, who hosts the Fox late-night show, RedEye, and a few of his friends, have produced a very creative response to the anti-Trump videos featuring mostly unknown celebrities. Click here to see it.
WHICH INSTITUTION IS MORE DISHONEST, the media or the FBI? Some of you may not be aware that the FBI released 301 Clinton documents under the cover of the Giants-Packers game and the Golden Globes awards on Sunday night. But if you watch MSNBC you wouldn’t know about it … even on Monday morning. The same goes for my local newspaper, The Arizona Republic (it endorsed Clinton for president) and its USA Today insert. Fox did cover it extensively on Monday morning, reporting that Hillary Clinton’s server had indeed been hacked through her e-mail connections with friend Sidney Blumenthal.
WHILE MOST DEMS WILL OBSTRUCT TRUMP, look for the president elect to court other Dems in his effort to fulfill his campaign promises, especially the 23 in the Senate up for reelection in 2018, seven of which are in states won by Trump.
REP. CEDRIC RICHARDS (D-LA), in my opinion, made a fool of himself while given the opportunity to testify against Sen. Jeff Sessions, the nominee for U.S. attorney general. Playing the victim, Richards complained about being the last to testify, was analogous to riding in the back of the bus. He came across as an angry, bitter man.
PLEASE NOTE that Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who became the first sitting senator to testify against a fellow sitting senator, pleaded with fellow members to not confirm Sen. Jeff Sessions. What an embarrassment for the Democrat Party, that sees Booker as a rising star as a presidential candidate. While Booker claimed that Sessions would not protect all Americans as AG, it should be remembered that Booker voted against the Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act, which contained a provision known as Kate’s Law, for Kate Steinle, who was shot and killed by an illegal alien.
