Letting Trump be Trump, Watergate-like, and more …

LET TRUMP BE TRUMP is still be best advice. It’s what got him elected. Yet, there are those who continue to insist that he should be more “presidential.”

Rep. Jackie Speier(en.wikipedia.com)

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), who has a vision of President Trump being removed from the presidency under the 25th Amendment, was asked, “Do you believe he is incapacitated?” by CNN’s Brianna Keilar. “Well, I think we have got to be very careful,” Speier responded, “He needs to start acting more presidential … I mean he has got to get a grip.” To that, John Hinderaker wrote in a piece, Has Washington Gone Crazy, “I think it is Ms. Speier and many of her fellow Democrats who need to get a grip.”

You may recall candidate Trump’s response to that suggestion while speaking at a rally in Waterbury, Connecticut. “I can do it. I’m a really smart person, Presidential is easy,” he said. He stepped away from the microphone briefly, and spoke in a dry monotone upon returning. When the laughter subsided, he made the point that acting presidential would not get him elected.

Was it “presidential” for President Obama to appear on the silly Two Ferns program? (cnn.com)

“Having a bearing or demeanor befitting a president, dignified and confident, “is how my dictionary defines “presidential.”

Was Barack Obama acting presidential when he danced on the Ellen Show, when he filled out his Final Four picks on ESPN, or when he appeared with the disrespectful Zach Galifianakis on his silly Two Ferns program? Not in my opinion.

Carl Bernstein (today.com)

IT’S ANOTHER WATERGATE, or it’s worse than Watergate. I don’t know about you, but I am tired of hearing that charge every time there’s a scandal in Washington.

I was reminded of that old saw when I saw Carl Bernstein interviewed about President Trump’s press conference, during which he assailed the dishonest media. Since I have previously made fun of Bob Woodward, who co-authored “All the President’s Men,” I must share this Bernstein quote from the Power Line blog.

“Four and a half decades after Watergate, Carl Bernstein is still living off his reporting on that scandal. Bernstein may have been a capable reporter in the 1970s, but his latest rant against President Trump suggests that he is well past his sell-by date.”

Here’s what Bernstein said: “Trump’s attacks on the American press as ‘enemies of the American people’ are more treacherous than Richard Nixon’s attacks on the press.” You should know that The Washington Post changed “treacherous” to “dangerous” in its story. Honest journalism?

When Nixon told his chairman of the joint chiefs, “The press is your enemy,” that was treacherous, because it recommends being deceptive in dealing with the press. Trump has been anything but.

DO YOU BELIEVE IT? – A campaign has been launched to end the use of those black silhouette targets at shooting ranges. Young black men are three times more likely to be shot by trained shooters than their while peers, according to campaign literature. A study by the University of Illinois, drawing together 42 different studies, revealed that people were quicker, or more trigger-happy to shoot black targets, relative to white targets. A group, No More Black Targets, made up of artists and people of various ethnicities, is trying to design a new target design. Do you believe the study, or is this another case of PC?

THE “NOT MY PRESIDENT’S DAY” PROTEST in Tempe, Arizona, home of Arizona State University, one of those bastions of liberal thought, fizzled and was cancelled when just 25 people showed up.  The Arizona Republic buried the story on page five, while publishing a three column, color photo of a Los Angeles demonstrator with a “Not My President” sign, along with a headline – Thousands in U.S. protest president – on page one above the fold.  Coverage of the Phoenix protest was given little attention. This is another example of the dishonest media.  Inside, the paper’s editorial board defended it’s position as the public’s watchdog with still another anti-Trump editorial cartoon.

AND FINALLY …. I remember the celebration of President’s Day in 2009, when to say – Not My President’s Day – was considered racist.
