Here are my views on items in the news.
WATCHING THE JUDGE GORSUCH HEARING was another vivid reminder of how pathetically small the Democrat party has become. The inane questioning from the left continued day after day, and the Judge stood his ground, and only once – during questioning by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) – did I note a change in his expression and the tone of his response. Durbin was impertinent.
President Trump’s reference to U.S. District Judge James L. Robart as a “so-called judge” following his initial travel ban rebuke, came up during the hearing, but Gorsuch was careful not to chastise the president. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) reminded everyone of former speaker Nancy Pelosi’s remarks about Gorsuch, referring to him as a “hostile” pick, adding that “if you breathe air, drink water, eat food, take medicine … this is a very bad decision.” Personally, I view Pelosi’s personal attack on Gorsuch worse than Trump’s “so-called judge” remark.
I remind you that it was President Obama, who openly criticized the Supreme Court judges for their decision on Citizens’ United during his 2010 State of the Union address on national television.
There are those, primarily on the left, who want President Trump to apologize for his remark about Judge Robart. I don’t expect him to do so, nor do I expect him to apologize for his accusation that the Obama White House “wiretapped” Trump Tower. History will reveal the behind the scenes goings-on by Obama acolytes during the early days of the Trump presidency.
U.S. DROPS IN HAPPINESS – According to the 2017 World Happiness Report, an annual ranking of 155 countries published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, a UN initiative, the U.S. fell to No. 14, down a spot from last year. The rankings are based on data from the World Gallup Poll, which uses a simple measure called the “Cantril ladder.” People are asked to envision a ladder, with their “best possible life” being at the top rung at 10.
Six key variables are used to derive at happiness scores, including income, healthy life expectancy, having someone to count on in times of trouble, generosity, freedom and trust, with the latter measured by the absence of corruption in business and government. The U.S. showed improvement in just two of the six areas – income per capita and healthy life expectancy. Norway was ranked No. 1, the happiest spot on earth.
OPEN BORDER ADVOCATES AMONG THE MEDIA revealed themselves this week when it was noted that ABC, CBS, NBC and MSNBC didn’t cover the rape of a teenage girl in a Rockville, MD school bathroom by two illegal immigrants. They will do anything to keep from highlighting illegal immigrant crimes that President Trump has targeted.
IT’S THE MEDIA AGAIN, but not in its reporting on the Trump administration this time. A member of the international media, Marin Mauricio Ortega, it has been learned, stole Patriot quarterback Tom Brady’s jersey. The FBI also found Brady’s Super Bowl 49 jersey and a football helmet believed to belong to Denver Bronco Von Miller from Super Bowl 50. Meanwhile, the FBI’s cases against Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation and the Trump surveillance issue continue to drag on.
