Good news. Bret Stephens, Wall Street Journal columnist and deputy editorial page editor, has joined the liberal New York Times as an op-ed columnist.
Regular readers of this blog may remember my Sept. 9, 2016 post, “Bret Stephens for Dummies,” followed by “Bret Stephens for Dummies, Part Two,” on Oct. 26, 2016. They were my responses to Stephens’ Wall Street Journal column, “Never Trump for Dummies.”
His remark, “If by now you don’t find Trump appalling, you’re appalling,” which I viewed as an insult to his readers, reminded me of Hillary Clinton’s reference to Trump’s supporters as “a basket of deplorables.” Not surprising, The Times’ James Bennet called Stephens, “a beautiful writer.”
He also suggested that voters should sacrifice their integrity and “live with” four years of Hillary rather than see Trump in the White House.
