Here are my observations on some items in the news.
PRESIDENT MAKES CHANGE at the State Department. He asked for the resignation of Rex Tillerson and announced the appointment of CIA director Mike Pompeo to fill that important position as he prepares for talks in North Korea. With the move by Pompeo, the president has nominated Deputy Director of the CIA Gina Haspel, 30-year veteran of the agency, to become the first female to become its director.
WHAT TO EXPECT – Pompeo and Haspel will be required to have their nominations confirmed by the Senate, where Democrats will surely do their best to resist. In the end, they will be approved. I wish we could count on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to expedite the confirmation process. And, look for the media to continue its “chaos in the White House” mantra and to resurface the background story of Tillerson calling the president a moron.
THE MEDIA IS CHOMPING AT THE BIT, hoping that Democrat Conor Lamb defeats Rick Saccone in the special runoff election today in Pennsylvania. They will hype it as positive move for Democrats going into the midterms in November.
NO COLLUSION BETWEEN TRUMP CAMPAIGN and Russia was announced by the House Intelligence Committee on Monday after months of investigation during which some 70 individuals were interviewed and more than 300,000 documents were reviewed. Of course, committee Democrats do not agree with the outcome.
NOW HILLARY BLAMES WHITE WOMEN for her loss to Donald Trump. Why not, she has blamed everyone and everything else, except herself. Appearing over the weekend at the India Today Conclave in Mumbai, Hillary Clinton told the audience that white women face an “ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should.”
However, she claimed that she was on the way to winning the white women vote until then FBI Director James Comey reopened his investigation into her use of a private e-mail server. “All of a sudden, white woman, who were going to vote for me and frankly standing up to the men in their lives and the men in their workplaces, were being told, ‘She’s going to jail. You don’t want to vote for her.”
That certainly doesn’t say much for women, if it were true.

She went on, lashing out against all Americans who voted for Trump; individuals she says did so because they didn’t “want black people getting rights, (they) don’t like women, you know, getting jobs, (they) don’t want, you know, see that Indian Americans succeeding more than (they) are.”
And it didn’t stop there. If you thought her nasty campaign remark that Trump supporters were in a basket of “deplorables … (and) irredeemable” was outrageous, in her Mumbai appearance she trashed voters in the nation’s heartland – flyover country if you will – as backward rubes. By saying, “I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward,” she was essentially telling those of us in red state flyover country that we don’t possess those characteristics.
SPEAKING OF HILLARY WOMEN – Jill Abramson, former New York Times executive editor and supporter of Hillary Clinton, recently admitted that she has been in despair since Donald Trump was elected. She carries a little Obama doll in her purse and “I pull him out every now and then to remind myself that the United States had a progressive, African-American president.”
Writing in Townhall, Beth Baumann, a conservative woman, talks about how this “is not only sad but downright disgusting.” Pathetic.
UNBELIEVABLE – With secure schools on the minds of people across the country, especially in Florida, where the most recent shooting took the lives of 17 individuals, in New York City Sgt. Raul Espinet became the last armed NYPD officer to be moved out of a New York school – Francis Lewis High School in Fresh Meadows, Queens – with its 4,400 students.
It’s part of looney Mayor deBlasio’s new community policing policy that will have policing units visit schools while patrolling school neighborhoods. Schools will continue to have unarmed “safety agents” in all schools.
THOSE CRAZY DEMOCRATS – In January and February, I wrote about the Democrat politicians in the New England states, who have blocked natural gas pipelines from going across their states, resulting in higher heating costs for their constituents. In addition, I have written about those states even blocking the shipment of coal to east coast harbors, where it would be exported to European countries. It’s all being done to curry favor with radical environmentalists
Guess what recently came into Boston Harbor? A tanker carrying natural gas from Siberia. So … Democrats who want the Trump administration to punish Russia for meddling in our elections by placing sanctions on them; and convinced that he colluded with the Russians, believe it’s okay to purchase natural gas from them. Go figure.
The Sierra Club is pushing the U.S. to abandon all fossil fuels, claiming the country is ready for 100 percent renewable energy, according to The Wall Street Journal. Greenpeace says it’s time to leave fossil fuels where they belong – in the ground.
However, natural gas and coal are responsible for about 64 percent of America’s electrical power. Just 15 percent comes from renewables.
