A bad week for Democrats … the media unhinged … and a primer on Trump’s foreign policy

Here are my observations and opinions on selected news of the day.

DEMOCRATS IN A TIZZY – Just when they thought they had their issue to replace the Russian collusion fake news – the separation of illegal immigrant families – the Supreme Court decides in favor of the president on his travel ban and slams the door on public sector unions.

IT GETS WORSE – Justice Anthony Kennedy had the temerity to announce his retirement, giving President Trump an opportunity to nominate another conservative to the Court. And there’s little they can do to stop him.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to be the new queen of freebees. (Pin It)

THERE’S MORE – The primary victory of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, an avowed Socialist, over the number four Democrat in the House – Joseph Crowley – positions the party even further to the left.

Ocasio-Cortez, who identifies with Sen. Bernie Sanders, is pushing free Medicare for all, fully-funded universities, a universal jobs guarantee with living wages and paid family and sick leave with no idea how it will be funded.

THEN THERE’S THIS UNWELCOME NEWS – That Harvard CAPS/Harris poll that revealed President Trump’s rise in approval, shows that 32 percent of Democrat voters polled, back the nomination of …. wait for it … Joe Biden as their candidate in 2020. The only other liberal in double digits was Sen. Elizabeth Warren with 10 percent.

ALL THAT BAD NEWS in about 48 hours.

“What he (Trump) has going for himself is that his opponents are crazed. Mr. Trump knows this, because he keeps feeding their mania.” – Daniel Henninger, The Wall Street Journal

AND THE MEDIA BECOMES UNHINGED – The usual collection of wackos on MSNBC and CNN are predicting Armageddon over a Supreme Court nominee, an unimaginable catastrophe worse than the election of Donald Trump.

Appearing on leftist Nicolle Wallace’s “Deadline White House” show on MSNBC, former Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD) suggested Democrats need to pressure Republican Senators Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) to oppose any Trump nominee. “It also means having the street rise up against them in Maine, in Alaska, and of course in Washington, and I don’t think it’s time to be cute anymore,” Edwards said.

She called the upcoming fight a matter of the Democrat party’s soul.

MSNBC host Chris Mathews was spouting “vengeance,“ and said, “I think the leadership (of the Democrat Party) is finished if they allow this to come to a vote.”

ON CNN’S “The Lead,” with host Jake Tapper, CNN analyst Angela Rye echoed Edwards with “They (Democrats) have to raise hell.”

TWO DEMOCRAT PREIDENTIAL WANNA BE’S – Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) voiced dire warnings. “We’re looking at a destruction of the Constitution of the United States,” said Harris.

It’s just the beginning, folks, just the beginning.

I predict the president will get his nominee through the Senate process and it will happen before the midterms.

TRUMP’S FOREIGN POLICY aims are clearly defined in Walter Russell Mead’s Wall Street Journal column, “Pompeo on What Trump Wants.” I recommend you read the column if you are of the belief that President Trump hasn’t given a lot of thought to global issues.

The president’s regular inferences that other countries aren’t paying their fair share for defense or on the issue of trade, not playing fair while robbing our “piggy bank,” cause some to be concerned, especially when it comes to our relationships with long-time allies.

In Mead’s interview with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, he writes, “The administration’s aim is to align the world order with 21st century realities.”

“Mr. Trump is suspicious of global institutions and alliances, many of which he believes are no longer paying dividends for the U.S.,” writes Mead.

“His (Trump’s) question is always, ‘How does that structure impact America?,” said Pompeo,“ The president isn’t interested in how a given role may have impacted America in the 60’s or 70’s, or even as the early 2000’s, but rather how it will enhance American power in 2018 and beyond.”

Pompeo believes that Trump’s instincts, preferences and beliefs constitute a coherent worldview, and his aim is to undertake consistent policy initiatives based on that worldview.

May God bless the United States of America.
