Here are my observations and opinions on selected news of the day.
WHILE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO STIFLE talk of impeachment of the president should they regain control of the House for fear of a voter backlas, the media isn’t helping. MSNBC and CNN reporters, anchors and guests used the word “impeach” or “Impeachment” an incredible 222 times between the hours of 6 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. last Wednesday.
ABC, CBS and NBC reporters and anchors were so desperate to support that narrative that they reported that Trump knew in advance of the 2016 Trump Tower with Russians, but when Michael Cohen’s attorney Lanny Davis corrected that statement for the record, the networks failed to acknowledge the mistake for an entire day.
A BIT OF IRONY – While campaigning for the presidency, Donald Trump asked for the black vote, insisting “what have you got to lose?” Since he took office, black unemployment has reached record lows.
THEN THERE’S THIS – While farmers are somewhat anxious over the president’s tariff actions, the Black Farmers and Agriculturists Association, representing 17,000 black farmers, is supporting the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
In a letter to Senators Charles Grassley and Dianne Feinstein of the Senate Judiciary Committee, the association’s president, Thomas Burrell, cited an October 2017 case in which Kavanaugh rendered a decision in favor of black farmers on the merits of evidence.
Feinstein is expected fulfill her role as a Democrat obstructionist by voting not to confirm Kavanaugh, and the Congressional Black Caucus wants the president impeached.
IT’S ABOUT TIME – The Trump administration announced Friday that it had cut $200 million U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority until it can ensure that American aid will not be used to fund terrorism, according to Adam Kredo of the Washington Free Beacon.
The recently passed Taylor Force Act is designed to provide greater oversight how U.S. taxpayer dollars fund the Palestinians. For years it has been believed that the Authority uses the money to fund accused terrorists and their families.
It is hoped that it will help in bringing them to peace talks with Israel.
YOU MAY RECALL that I have pressed on several occasions for at least one of the FISA Court judges to get a backbone and lodge a complaint against the DOJ and/or the FBI for nondisclosure of key information on FISA warrant applications submitted for the purpose of surveilling Trump associates.
The fact that the Russian Dossier, a key document used in the application, was paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC, was not noted.
The Court is stacked with Obama appointees, with judges typically sitting for warrants one week at a time on a rotating basis. It’s entirely possible that more than one judge signed off on the subject warrants.
The fact that no judge has stepped forward to admit being duped by DOJ and FBI individuals seeking warrants with material information missing, we can only assume that the Deep State is still at work in the DOJ.
“While I am attorney general the actions of the Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations,” – Attorney General Jeff Sessions
SEN. JEFF FLAKE (RINO-AZ), who has become the media darling for his statements against President Trump, went to Africa for nearly a month when he was supposed to be in Washington, according to Bre Payton of The Federalist. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell cancelled the August recess in an effort to push through the president’s judiciary nominees.
If Flake were a true patriot as he tries to paint himself, he would resign from the Senate Judiciary Committee, in the interest of the party. Instead, it appears that he will be part of the resistance movement until he unceremoniously leaves the Senate.
Flake has taken more than a dozen trips to Cuba; with a group of liberal Democrats in January 2013; back again in November 2014, then again in December 2014, August 2015 and March 2016. In his first months in office, he took taxpayer-funded trips to Israel, Afghanistan, Italy, Cape Verde, South Africa and Argentina, according to Payton’s research.
Not what you would expect from a “genuine fiscal conservative,” as he was referred to in a Wall Street Journal blog shortly after he took office in 2013.
“Flake has served as rudderless lord of his small fiefdom in the Senate, always operating within the policy universe set out by the left. His only major accomplishment was joining the Gang of 8 open borders initiative, which was a colossal betrayal of this state and of the first responsibility of a public servant.” – Conservative Review
The Conservative Review noted the irony of Flake’s antagonism toward President Trump and his policies, while recognizing it was do-nothing establishment individuals like Flake who were the motivation for Trump’s successful election.
The citizens of Arizona saw through Flake’s grinning posturing before the cameras and signaled to him that they were following through on the term-limit he once promised voters; sealing his chances for reelection.
THE MEDIA CAN’T WIN – The latest NBC/WSJ Poll conducted after the news of the developments against associates Manafort and Cohen revealed that President Trump’s approval rating is “remarkably stable.” Not what they were hoping for, I’m sure.
“For Democrats hoping to craft a midterm election strategy, the week’s news thus far represents a fools-gold opportunity rather than a silver bullet solution,” said Democrat pollster Peter Hart.
WITHIN THAT POLL was an unusual question asking if the president has been honest and truthful about the Mueller probe. The Mueller probe continues; what is there to be honest and truthful about? His frustration with the length of the probe and his references to it as a “witch hunt” are well known, but hardly the basis for considering his truthfulness. Yet telephone pollsters were somehow able to determine that the majority of voters believe that Trump has not been honest and truthful about the Mueller probe.
WHY YOU CAN’T TRUST POLLS – The NBC/WSJ Poll respondents gave Republicans a 14-point advantage when asked which party better deals with the economy, which incidentally is the GOP’s biggest lead on this question in the poll’s history.
Yet, when asked which party they preferred to control congress, 49 percent indicated the Democrats (who have stated that they would repeal the tax cut) and 43 percent Republican.
May God bless the United States of America.
