A foolish ‘what if’ question … blaming Trump for Smollett … AOC says she’s ‘the boss’ … no more babies? … pro-life rolls rise … and statements of incredulity

Here are my observations and opinions of my selected news of the day.

A “WHAT IF” PROJECTS TRUMP HATE TO 2020, and as you might expect, CNN is behind a wild thought – “What if Trump refuses to accept defeat in 2020?” – and refuses to leave the Oval Office?

The leftist, anti-Trump network put forth the ridiculous idea by publishing an op-ed by, who else, a liberal professor. “Let’s start with why we need to ask this question,” writes Joshua A. Geltzer, executive director and visiting professor of law at Georgetown Law Center’s Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection. “Trump is increasingly proving himself of a president eager to overstep his authority.

“Trump displayed his willingness to invoke unprecedented presidential power to declare a national emergency utterly without justification,” Geltzer claims before citing “a startling report” published by none other than the leftist New York Times.

In light of these overreaching assertions of his own authority, it’s at least plausible that Trump might attempt to cling to power in ways previously unimaginable by an American president,” he believes.

CNN publishes drivel like that, and they think it’s the president who needs psychiatric care.

“In 2020, with his reelection on line, the stakes are Trump himself are, of course, wildly bigger,” writes Geltzer. Wildly bigger than your crazy idea, I would ask Geltzer.

Geltzer goes on to outline the steps that need to be taken to make sure this unbelievable situation doesn’t take place, and that the transfer of power occurs peacefully; mostly requiring pledges from members of the electoral college, members of Congress, and state governors.

Then, as if he imagines a scenario from a Hollywood movie, he suggests that it would be worth asking the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to affirm that, as they would no longer owe loyalty to the president after noon on January 20, 2021, they understand that and would act consistently with it.

Taking Trump’s 2016 joking refusal to commit that he’d honor the results of the election seriously, Geltzer seems to forget that it was Hillary Clinton who delayed her concession. Now Geltzer is concerned about a smooth transfer of power should Trump lose in 2020. Geltzer conveniently ignores the fact that Obama holdovers making up the Deep State continue, after two years, to make the transfer of power to Trump anything but smooth.

The nutty professor apparently doesn’t know that the military doesn’t pledge loyalty to the president. It pledges loyalty to the Constitution, promising to defend it from all enemies foreign and domestic, as Joe Newby and Jeff Dunetz point out in The Lid.

THE BLAME TRUMP CAMPAIGNPaul Bedard, writing in the Washington Examiner noted the continued blame Trump campaign at MSNBC yesterday as they invited fellow leftist Jonathan Capehart of the Washington Post to comment on the Smollett hoax.

Are you ready for this? Capehart gave this reason why the media and some of the Democrat presidential candidates fell so hard for Smollett’s claim that he was targeted by racists and Trump supporters:

“(Trump) actually stokes the atmosphere of menace and insecurity that millions of Americans feel across this country,” adding that Trump and his supporters “are using the Jussie Smollett situation to rhetorically bash people who are afraid for their own existence and their own lives … really despicable.”

“I’M THE BOSS” declared wacko Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez during a discussion of her Green New Deal at the New York Hall of Science. She later tweeted, “Yup. If you don’t like the Green New Deal, then come up with your own ambitious, on-scale proposal to address the global crisis. Until then, we’re in charge, and you’re just shouting from the cheap seats.”

THERE’S MORE – With the dire warning she has for the pending end of the earth as we know it, she adds, “There is a scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult, and it does lead, I think, young people to have legitimate question. Is it okay to still have children?”

GOOD NEWS FOR PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT – Word of the late term abortion law enacted in New York and being considered in other states seems to have changed the opinions of Democrats, normally considered to be pro-choice, according to Madeline Osburn in The Federalist.

A new Marist poll reveals that Americans are now as likely to identify as pro-life (47 percent) as they are pro-choice (47 percent). A month ago, those indicating they were pro-choice outnumbered pro-lifers by 17 points.

The February poll of Democrats under the age of 45 found that 34 percent identify as pro-life and 61 percent pro-choice. In the previous month, just 20 percent indicated they were pro-life.

INCONGRUITY – A friend recently sent me a compilation of statements under the heading of incongruity. I found them quite entertaining, and plan to publish them from time to time with apologies to the unknown originator. Here are a few:

“Isn’t it weird that in America our flag and our culture offend so many people, but our benefits don’t.”

“Liberals say, ‘If confiscating all guns saves just one life, it’s worth it!’ Well then, if deporting all illegals saves just one life, wouldn’t that be worth it?”

“I can’t quite figure out how you can proudly wave the flag of another country, but consider it punishment to be sent back there.”

May God bless the United States of America.
