Here are my observations and opinions on my select news of the day.
WHY THE LEFT FEARS BARR – We already know that the Barack Obama White House knew that the FBI was protecting Hillary Clinton and was deeply involved in snooping on the Trump campaign, but the dogged Attorney General Bill Barr won’t let it go. The word, “accountability,” is in his vocabulary.
We may soon know more about President Obama’s e-mail exchanges with her while she was in Russia utilizing a private server located in her home. He used a pseudonym while writing her in 2012 and 2013, but claimed he learned of her private server when we did via news reports in March 2015.
And, we may learn how the State Department in 2013 turned up no e-mails in a FOIA request when the IG in 2016 found that to be inaccurate.
With all that we know now about the surveillance of the Trump team, with the involvement of Sally Yates, James Clapper, John Brennan, James Comey and others in 2016, what was the purpose of Susan Rice’s CYA “By the Book” e-mail written just 15 minutes before Obama left office.
And, if Obama wasn’t involved, why did Lisa Page text fellow FBI agent Peter Strzok that Obama “wanted to know everything we’re doing?”
Not to be forgotten – the vendetta against Lt. Gen Mike Flynn.
You may recall how Obama had to clarify his statement regarding scandals in his administration with the caveat, “no scandals that embarrassed us.” I have a feeling that Barr will be able to add to the list of Fast and Furious, wiretapping of journalists, the IRS scandal, the loss of lives in Benghazi and the payoff to Iran.
AS I PREPARED TO POST THIS, I learned that Barr named John Durham, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut, to review the origins of the Russia inquiry.
THE REAL DIVIDERS – How often do you hear how President Trump is dividing the country? Let’s face it, voters in the 2016 presidential election, tired of status quo presidents, saw in Trump someone who would bring about needed change.
However, “old Washington” wasn’t having any part of it, and the Deep State of Obama holdovers in the Justice Department, including the FBI, we now know, participated in a conspiracy to bring down Trump’s presidency even before he took office. Hundreds of members of Congress even boycotted his inaugural ceremonies.
The left-leaning media was complicit. The American public were inundated with 90 percent negative coverage of the Trump administration by the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN and MSNBC.
Democrats were more than happy to appear on CNN and MSNBC talk shows to divide the country. You know who they are. The networks invited presidential historians, like Jon Mecham, Michael Beschloss and Doris Kearns Goodwin, who shamefully agreed to comment negatively even though Trump was only in his first two years in office. There were comparisons with Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and FDR. Unbelievable.
While the Democrat resistance blocked President Trump’s administration and court nominees, and his requests to secure the southern border, his economy hummed along with the GDP hitting 3.2 percent while we saw the lowest unemployment numbers in decades and rising wages. Democrats claimed that they were the result of Obama administration efforts. Of course, you will recall that it was Obama who gave up on manufacturing jobs, and foolishly asked if Trump had a magic wand to bring them back.
Democrats attempted to further divide the nation by predicting that the Mueller Report would be THE document to sink the Trump presidency. There was talk of impeachment.
Then, dissatisfied with the Mueller’s findings, the usual Democrat suspects went to the microphones to attack Attorney General Bill Barr. Barr is the left’s new target, and a Contempt of Congress charge was approved. They’re attempting to build a mistrust in him as he, and DOJ IG Michael Horowitz, plan to expose the Deep State motives against Trump.
Of course, the Democrats try to divide the country in other ways. They like to say President Trump lacks a moral compass, and that he doesn’t feel empathy, while they belittle his acknowledgements of religious freedom and recognition of the military and the need to continue the improvements within the VA.
Because the president pulled us out of the costly and ineffective Paris Accord, and has criticized the left’s Green New Deal, they say he is opposed to clean air and water. Not true.
And, while Democrats favor globalization as beneficial to America, President Trump believes in America first, a policy middle America especially favors.
The political divide along social and cultural values will continue as long as the left continues to spew their socialistic patronage demands on inequality, college loan forgiveness, free tuition, single-payer health insurance and open borders.
As we look over the line-up of 2020 Democrat presidential wannabes, led by Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, it appears to me they are in a futile exercise to face the man who is changing Washington despite the resistance.
DEMOCRAT KAMALA HARRIS, who told a January town hall that she wanted to take away the health insurance benefits of millions of Americans, cavalierly saying it was time to move on, admitted on CNN Sunday that she wants to provide taxpayer-funded health insurance – along with education and other benefits – to illegals in this country.
SHE WASN’T ALONE – Apology Joe Biden declared during a California campaign stop that the U.S. has an “obligation” to give taxpayer-funded heath care to illegal aliens.
That ought to win over voters.
DON’T BLAME DEFICITS ON TAX REFORM – While the deficit is rising, it’s not as much as feared, according to the Wall Street Journal, because tax revenues are increasing due to faster economic growth. The CBO reports that revenues rose 2 percent to $2,041 trillion in the first seven months of fiscal 2019 from a year ago.
The rise in the deficit was due to federal spending – 7 percent in the first seven months to $2,571 or $178 billion more than the same period a year ago.
And, while Democrats don’t want to talk about the hit of entitlements on the deficit, they should look at the Social Security payouts, and Medicare and Medicaid outlays that rose 6 percent, 5 percent and 4 percent, respectively.
May God bless the United States of America.
