Here are my observations and opinions of my selected news of the day.
WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING to our nation? Some call it political correctness gone amok, but it’s more than that. Of course, part of it can be attributed to the anti-Trump resistance crowd, determined to oppose his America first position.
We’ve seen statues of historic figures, mostly generals, removed from pedestals, and their names removed from schools.
Wearing a MAGA cap became a racist symbol, and known supporters of President Trump were harassed in restaurants. College students interviewed on the street don’t believe America is great. The New York Times says we are merely okay. And did you know that we declared our independence in 1984?
The 13-star Betsy Ross flag was going to appear on a pair of sneakers until a discredited former NFL player told his “owner” that it too was considered racist. And a wacko burned two flags outside of the White House, while calling for “a world without America.”
AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE FLAG will be offered to U.S. Army members when they sit for official photos – a crossed network of luminescent pink and azure laser beams set against a subdued field of midnight blue.
Why, you ask? It was decided that an “inspiring photo backdrop that puts the professionalism and honor of the American soldier on full display,” said Sergeant Major of the Army Dan Dailey.
And pink and azure lasers convey that? I hope our warriors choose old glory for their photo backdrops.
Unbelievably, the city council of Charlottesville, Virginia, home of Thomas Jefferson, voted 4-1 to stop recognizing his birthday, because he once owned slaves. Monticello, his home, draws nearly a half million visitors each year.
“We’re making sure the historical perspective is told from the black perspective, and being unwavering about our viewpoint of that,” said Mayor Nikuyah Walter, Charlottesville’s first black mayor. He calls it a push to “reframe” it’s past. Kramerontheright views it as more revisionist history.
In San Francisco – naturally – an historic 13-panel, 1,600-square foot fresco mural, “Life of Washington,“ painted 83 years ago on the walls of George Washington High School will be painted over at a cost of $600,000 because it is considered racist and degrading for its depiction of black and Native American people.
FEWER PROUD AMERICANS – Just two days before Independence Day, the Gallup Poll revealed that this Fourth of July marked a low point in U.S. patriotism. For the first time in Gallup’s 18-year history of asking U.S. adults how proud they are to be Americans, fewer than a majority – 47 percent – say they are “extremely proud.”
Naturally, that’s what made the headlines. The media failed to mention that 25 percent said they are “very proud,” and 16 percent claimed to be “moderately proud.” Thus, 88 percent have some pride in their country.
Incidentally, just 23 percent of liberals (Democrats 32 percent) are extremely proud to be Americans, while 65 percent of conservatives (Republicans 74 percent) are extremely proud.
DON’T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU on the way out, Michigan Congressman Justin Amash. You probably thought it would be clever to declare your independence from the Republican Party and consider yourself an independent on Independence Day. Wow! I’m impressed.
If you hadn’t heard, Amash stated that the two-party political system represents an “existential threat to American principles and institutions,” without explanation. His seat will be challenged in 2020.
FROM THE CROWDED FIELD ON THE LEFT – Apology Joe Biden continues his gaffe campaign by announcing that he would bring back the individual mandate, the penalty for not having health insurance. President Trump eliminated the mandate as part of his tax reform bill in 2017.
In a prime example of Biden’s out-of-touch campaign, he said President Trump’s rhetoric on the border crisis was not surprising to him. “This is part of what Trump is playing on,” he said, playing on people’s fears of having open borders and people flowing into the U.S.” Hello, Joe, hello.
KAMALA HARRIS, continues to show her “underlying weakness as a candidate,” according to The Federalist. She showed her lack of knowledge on health insurance when she said she would abolish private health insurance as part of her support of Medicare-for-All and had to backtrack the next day. Then she foolishly raised her hand showing her willingness to support health care for illegals. And, she’s for paying reparations over slavery.
Since her 15 minutes of fame for attacking Apology Joe Biden over school busing, that appears to have backfired on her, she has gone on the attack against President Trump, calling him “a predator.” “I know predators and we have a predator living in the White House,” she said.
“The thing about predators is that they prey on the vulnerable … those who they do not believe are strong … and the thing about predators (they’re) cowards,” the Democrat wannabe said.
While playing predator as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, she saw herself in the catbird seat while grilling Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Leading him, and viewers, that she held some negative information in her quiver, warned him to “be sure about your answer, sir.” Nothing materialized and she never produced any incriminating evidence. Those following Harris say that she tends to bluff and fold when called upon.
“I think she will lose,” said John Waters in a New York Magazine interview, “Any of the ones that have already been out there will lose, big time.”
HILLARY BOWS OUT – You may recall that I wrote earlier of the ridiculous selection of Hillary Clinton to be the keynote speaker at the FireEye Cyber Defense Summit.
No explanation was given for the cancellation of her appearance. Perhaps the summit planner came to his or her senses since she ran an insecure homemade server that she used for official business as secretary of state, and that classified materials was transmitted by and to her on that system.
AND FINALLY – The bartender in residence at the House of Representatives would like you to believe that illegals in detention were told to drink out of the toilet there, however the toilets are similar to those used in jails, and have a fresh water lavatory built in over the toilet..
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
