Here are my observations and opinions on my selected news of the day.
DEMOCRATS UNHAPPY WITH THE TRUTH – When The New York Times appropriately headlined its coverage of President Trump’s remarks with “TRUMP URGES UNITY VS. RACISM,” it raised the ire of Democrats and the compliant Times changed the headline in its second edition to, “ASSAILING HATE, BUT NOT GUNS.”
Here are some of the comments that forced the Times to rewrite its headline for later editions:
“Hey, NY Times – what’s happened to ‘The Truth is Worth It?” – Mayor DeBlasio
“Let this front page serve as a reminder of how white supremacy is aided by – and often relies upon – the cowardice of mainstream institutions (the Times).” – Rep. Ocasio-Cortez
“That’s not what happened.” – Sen. Gillibrand
“Lives literally depend on you doing better, NYT. Please do.” – Sen. Booker
“Unbelievable.” – Beto O’Rourke
THE TIMES RESPONSE to caving to the Democrats was e-mailed by Danielle Rhoades Ha, the Times’ vice president of communications: “The original headline was flawed and was changed for all editions of the paper following the first edition.”
So, there you have it … “truth,” to the Times is a flaw.
HOW DISGUSTING! – Dayton’s Democrat Mayor Nan Whaley continues to raise President Trump’s rhetoric even though it appears as though the shooting there didn’t have any racist or white supremacist-centered motive. She should be embarrassed that the red flags on the Dayton shooter were ignored.
BARACK OBAMA, who couldn’t find it within himself to make a statement when Rep. Steve Scalise and others were shot at on a Virginia ballfield; and couldn’t possibly publicly wish his vice president, Apology Joe Biden, well as a candidate for president, didn’t hesitate to release a wordy statement via Twitter about the recent shootings.
Obama begins with the usual “we’re better than that” mantra and again preaches gun control, before piling on President Trump as the perpetrator of the El Paso and Dayton shootings:
“We should soundly reject language coming out of the mouths of our leaders that feeds a climate of fear and hatred or normalizes racist sentiments; leaders who demonize those who don’t look like us,” Obama tweeted.
He went on to shamefully compare Trump’s language to political leaders responsible for the Holocaust, Rwandan genocide and Balkan ethnic cleansing.
So much for being “presidential,” Barack. Oh, I forgot, you were never presidential.
HAVE YOU HEARD that the leftist Joe Scarborough of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” who tells Trump supporters that they are as much a racist or white supremacist, has now launched a crusade to target Trump donors, and those who do business with his campaign?
His wife and co-host Mika Brzezinski outrageously said, “He (Trump) seems to want these (shootings) to happen.”
COPY CAT – Texas Democrat Joaquin Castro, twin brother of presidential candidate Julian Castro, has tweeted a list of 44 San Antonio citizens who have donated the federal maximum to the Trump campaign.
BETTE MIDLER couldn’t resist an attack on the NRA and gun control with her tweet @BetteMidler: “Hey, hey NRA! How many lives did you take today??”
BRIAN CATES, a writer, responded to Midler @drawandstrike with: “Zero. Now do Planned Parenthood.”
I WONDER, is there someone at Fox News Channel reading Kramerontheright? Regular readers may recall my August 1, 2019 flashback with the words of President Trump about the American carnage in his inaugural address. On Tuesday, on Martha MacCallum‘s Big Story, low and behold, she featured a video clip of the president delivering that part of the address I quoted in my blog. Hmmmmmm.
REGARDING THE NRA – “Tragedy sometimes brings out the worst in us,” wrote Brad Polumbo in The Washington Examiner, “Nowhere is this more true than on the digital hellhole known as Twitter, especially in the aftermath of heartbreaking mass shootings.”
In his piece, “Dana Loesch is a class act,” Polumbo writes of the hate directed via tweets at the NRA spokeswoman. “It would be easy, in face of the endless and unrelenting hatred, to lash out. But Loesch doesn’t sink to their level and spit back.”
Instead she simply responds like this: “Not a single bit of this is true. God bless.” Or, “I disagree. God bless.”
FEDERAL BACKGROUND CHECKS – If you wonder, as I have, how guns get into the wrong hands when we have a National Instant Criminal Background Check System, I suggest you go online and read all about it. Be prepared to be shocked.
I learned that the overwhelming majority of gun background checks take just minutes to clear the would-be buyer. After the buyer completes a Form 4473, the gun store contacts the NICS online or by phone to supply the answers from your form and your Social Security number.
If more information is required, the FBI has three business days to make a final determination on the buyer. If, after three days, the store owner doesn’t hear from the FBI, he is permitted to make the sale and is not required to let them know the sale was made.
Recalling the flap over the Census form, I was surprised to see that the firearm transaction form asked for ethnicity, race, and citizenship. In a series of yes or no questions, it asks if the individual has ever been convicted of a felony, a fugitive from justice or adjudicated as a mental defective and are you an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States.
LAUGH-OF-THE-DAY – As we laugh about the financial problems of the nation’s newspapers over their revenues that resulted in the merger of GateHouse Media and Gannett, enjoy this quote from Mark Twain: “If you don’t read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed.”
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
