Is the McCain legacy in danger? … Biden forgets what state he’s in … no excitement for Biden … Crazy Bernie goes after fossil fuel execs … psychiatrist predicts Trump will kill millions .. Axelrod warns of next court battle … MSNBC anchor says two-gender talk is ‘incendiary’ … U.S. is not warming … don’t apologize … and another Keystone Pipeline hurdle

Here are my observations and opinions of my selected news of the day.

UNBELIEVEABLE! – I reported earlier about the Arizona Republic’s two-day major page one features commemorating the one-year anniversary of Sen. John McCain’s death.   In over-the-top coverage, page one of the paper’s Sunday edition again was devoted to the late senator, “ONE YEAR LATER,” featuring a color photo of him that dominated the page above-the-fold.

What could the paper possibly write that wasn’t already said when he died, and it published a 64-page commemorative issue on the senator’s life?

I’ll tell you.  The Sunday edition was an all-out attack on President Trump, beginning with the story of a local Hispanic attorney, who dropped his affiliation with the Republican Party to become an independent due to the “unvarnished racism under President Trump.”  The feud with Trump is again discussed and there was the gratuitous slap at Sen. Lindsay Graham, McCain’s longtime friend, for supporting the president.

After reading it, I was unable to ascertain how “McCain (is) still at center of debate within Republican Party,” as the subhead declared.  Obviously, the Arizona Republic is doing its best to lionize him.  One would think they’re concerned with his legacy.

THERE’S MORE – In addition to the main feature, there were three other articles – not sidebars, full headlined articles – “5 things we miss the most about Sen. McCain,” “Which McCain kids might run for office?” and “Meagan McCain taking a break to remember her father.”

Enough.

CINDY MC CAIN, appearing Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” said, “Our country is not well right now.  We’re not.  You know, we need to get our act together number one and step back and take a breath.”

Okay. What do you suggest?

She went on to criticize the handling of immigrants at the border, saying, “To somehow side up black and white, brown and white, or whatever it may be, It’s just wrong.  It’s not who we are.”

What is she saying?

I DON’T MEAN TO PICK ON Apology Joe Biden, moving from city to city and state to state, but you would think after confusing Burlington, Vermont and Burlington, Iowa he would stop and think before speaking.  When he was asked about his impression of Keene, New Hampshire, where he was spending the weekend appealing to voters, he responded with, “What’s not to like about Vermont in terms of the beauty of it”

SPEAKING OF JOE Patrick Murray, who heads the Monmouth University Polling Institute, recently released a poll giving Biden a significant lead in Iowa, but he told the New York Times, “I did not meet one Biden voter who was in any way, shape or form, excited about voting for Biden.”

CRAZY BERNIE SANDERS – When I referred to “Crazy” Bernie in the draft of yesterday’s blog, my editor suggested I drop the “Crazy” reference, so I did, but I’m sticking with it today after hearing about his tweet, “ Fossil fuel executives should be criminally prosecuted for the destruction they have knowingly caused.”

Crazy Bernie, who unveiled a $16 trillion green plan to kill fossil fuel use by 2050, “wants to incarcerate the very people who are responsible for keeping the lights on and air conditioning running in operating rooms at almost every hospital,” writer Roger L. Simon in PJ Media.  “And that’s just the beginning of the myriad necessities of life provided for at this point in human history by those supposed criminals in the eyes of the self-described democratic socialist of multiple houses and private jets.”

SPEAKING OF CRAZY – “Trump is as destructive a person in this century as Hitler, Stalin, Mao in the last century,” said the former chairman of the Psychiatry Department of Duke University Dr. Allen Frances, “He may be responsible for many more million deaths than they were.”

Seemingly, Frances believes that Trump’s perceived inattention to climate change, tax cuts to the rich, and the trillions in debt will result in millions of deaths.

SCARE TACTIC – While most people were happy to learn that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has successfully fought off several battles with cancer, leave it to a Democrat, David Axelrod, to speculate on her leaving the bench.  If a Republican did that, he or she, would be hung out to dry in the media.  Axelrod warned that if Judge Merrick Garland is again passed by, “it will tear this country apart.”

MSNBC ANCHOR CHRIS JANSING during a panel discussion addressing the GOP’s relationship with women and the LGBT community, called Rep. Ralph Abrahama’s belief in the medical assertion that there are only two genders “incendiary.”

Abrahama is seeking the GOP nomination to challenge Democrat Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards.

ATTENTION CHICKEN LITTLES – There has been no warming in the United States since at least 2005, according to updated data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), writes James Taylor.  “If anything, U.S. temperatures are now slightly cooler than they were 14 years ago.”

In January 2005, NOAA began recording temperatures at its newly built U. S. Climate Reference Network, which includes 114 pristinely maintained temperature stations spaced relatively uniformly across the lower 48 states. NOAA made sure that the selected locations were far from urban and land-development impacts that might artificially taint temperature readings.

When will the media and voters challenge the Democrat presidential candidates and their wacko environmental supporters over their doomsday climate change positions and blue-sky green budget plans?

DON’T APOLOGIZE – Some time ago I wrote about people who say something they believe, and when they face an outcry of opposition, they immediately apologize.  Who are they kidding?  I’m referring to public figures, not your five-year-old.

I decided to touch on the subject again after reading Steven Malanga’s piece, “I Apologize For This Article,” in which he writes about the apologies already given during the Democrat presidential primary by Biden, Harris, Gabbard, O’Rourke, Williamson and Buttigieg.

Reviewing the apology culture, Malanga discusses the right and wrong way to apologize.  “What’s ironic about this orgy of regret is that the word today means nearly the opposite of what it originally signified.  To the Greeks and Romans, an apology was a defense against accusations.

THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE is one step closer as the Nebraska Supreme Court upheld the state’s approval of the pipeline, but hurdles to long-delayed project remain; namely in Montana, where they’re not satisfied that all environmental impacts have been addressed.

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
