Here are my observations and opinions of the Democrats’ missteps toward the impeachment of the president.
ENOUGH ALREADY – I know, you’ve had enough of the Democrats’ phony impeachment inquiry, but I feel I must at least highlight several points that seem to get lost or not even mentioned in the media coverage.
FIRST, A FLASHBACK TO 1998 when then President Clinton was impeached. On December 18, 1998, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, then just a regular member of the House, took to the floor of the House to speak:
“Today the Republican majority is not judging the president with fairness, but impeaching him with a vengeance. We are here today because the Republicans in the House are paralyzed with hatred of President Clinton, and until the Republicans free them selves of that hatred our country will suffer. It’s about a punishment searching for a crime that doesn’t exist.”
Yes, this does sound familiar, but I do not recall a hatred of President Clinton that even comes close to the three-year effort to undermine President Trump. Surely, you will remember that then Republicans, led by House Speaker Newt Gingrich, worked with Clinton.
There are several 1998 quotes attributed to Rep. Jerry Nadler. This one is appropriate to repeat as his Judiciary Committee takes on the Democrat impeachment effort:
“There must never be a narrowly-voted impeachment or an impeachment substantially supported by one of our major political parties and largely opposed by the other.”
You will recall that on October 31, 2019, one party – the Republicans – couldn’t have been more opposed, with all members – 194 – voting opposed, while 232 Democrat (plus one independent) voted in favor of preceding. Two Democrats sided with the Republicans.
MORE RECENTLY – In March 2019, you may recall that House Speaker Pelosi suggested that she was not eager to impeach Donald Trump saying:
“Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”
AND THIS PAST WEDNESDAY, Democrats brought in law scholars from four universities – all Democrats, who have supported Democrat candidates – spewing their disdain for President Trump. One exception was Jonathan Turley, who set aside his past party connection to voice his concern for the move to impeach. He suggested that it was the lawmakers, in fact, who were demonstrating an abuse of power.
“I can’t emphasize this enough and I’ll say it one more time. If you impeach a president, if you make a high crime and misdemeanor out of going to the courts, it is an abuse of power. It’s your abuse of power. You’re doing precisely what you are criticizing the president of doing.” – Jonathan Turley, George Washington University
Through eight hours of testimony, the public learned nothing, other than a reminder how liberal our colleges and universities have become. Stanford law professor Pamela Karlan, was particularly bitter. Rather than walk past the Trump Hotel in Washington DC, she said she crossed to the other side of the street. Now that’s bitter.
She even brought the president’s 13-year old son into her discussion of “King” Trump. She gave a half-hearted apology after the First Lady scolded her in a Tweet.
“Her maladjusted nastiness turned her into an instant folk hero for the foot-stomping left,” commented Stephen Kruiser of PJ Media.
Among the Republican members who challenged the professors was Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, who established that they had all supported Democrat candidates and most have given them thousands of dollars, and two have been calling for Trump’s impeachment for years.
Gaetz asked them to raise their hands if they had any personal knowledge of any material facts from Congressman Adam Schiff’s impeachment report. There were no raised hands.
FINALLY, YESTERDAY House Speaker Pelosi approached the lectern to say:
“Sadly, but with confidence and humility, with allegiance to our founders, and our heart full of lover for America, today I am asking our chairmen to proceed with the articles of impeachment.”
The lack of compelling, overwhelming evidence and bipartisanship be damned. She’ll just renew her membership in the “hypocrite society.”
Later Thursday, as she was leaving her regular press session, a reporter asked her if she hates President Trump. “Pelosi stopped and returned to the microphones to condemn the question, telling reporters she is a Catholic, she has “a heart full of love,” and prays for the president,” wrote Susan Ferrechio in the Washington Examiner.
“Don’ mess with me when it come to words like that,” Pelosi said. “As a Catholic I resent you using hate in a sentence that references me. I don’t hate anyone. We don’t hate anyone.”
C’mon, Nancy, nobody believes that.
INTERESTINGLY, Rep. Al Green (D-TX), who introduced an impeachment resolution in December 2017, railed against the lack of diversity among the impeachment witnesses chosen by the Democrat-controlled House Judiciary Committee, according to Alex Griswald of the Washington Morning Beacon newsletter.
“It hurts my heart, Mr. Speaker, to see the Judiciary Committee hearing experts on the topic of impeachment, one of the seminal issues of this Congress, and not one person of color among the experts,” Green said on the House floor.

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
