SPECIAL: What You May Not Know About Black Lives Matter

Here are my observations and opinions on the Black Lives Matter movement.

YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS – In my last edition, I quoted from a Clairmont Institute piece, “Stand Up, Republicans,” as an admonishment to Republicans who seemingly refuse to believe that the agenda of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement is out to destroy the American way of life.

“We’re trained Marxists,” BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors proudly admitted. During an appearance on CNN, Cullors stated “Our goal is to get Trump out” – not in November, “immediately.”

On Fox News Channel this week, Lisa Boothe took on leftist Jessica Tarlov, asking “do the Marxist tactics not concern you?”  “No, it doesn’t concern me that there are roots in Marxism,” Tarlov responded.

We are now witnessing the results of their goal calling for the destruction of our history (statues and monument vandalism) and the traditional family, the dismantling of cisgender privilege, open borders, reparations, socialism, and abolishing the police.

Since Clairmont’s claim that 65 percent of all Americans now support BLM, wasn’t supported with the name of a pollster, I was skeptical, and decided to do a bit of research.

I recalled their marches of a few years ago, yelling out “Pigs in the blanket. Fry ‘em like bacon,” but how did they get to this point?  They would surface now and then, but the police brutality that took the life of George Floyd in Minneapolis was made for them.

Anger over Floyd’s death contributed a great deal to the protests that began, according to Pew Research Center.  About six-in-ten U. S. adults believe that some people took advantage of the situation to engage in criminal behavior, according to Pew.

Astonishingly, Pew says two thirds of U.S. adults say they strongly or somewhat support the movement.

MEANWHILE, a survey conducted last week by Rasmussen Reports found that 59 percent of likely U.S. voters believe all lives matter when asked which of the statement was closer to their own.  That’s down from 78 percent when asked the same question in August 2015.  Thirty percent say black lives matter, up from 11 percent in 2015.

Interestingly, 50 percent of all voters support a so-called Blue Lives Matter law in their states, like Louisiana, that makes attacks on police and first responders a hate crime with increased penalties.  Forty-six percent of Blacks favor Blue Lives Matter.  Republicans favor Blue Lives Matter legislation over Democrats 68 to 41 percent.

Leave it the haughty anti-Trump Vanity Fair magazine to publish a piece headlined, “American Voters are Rapidly Embracing the Black Lives Matter Movement,” citing the results of surveys by Civiqs and Monmouth University.

Civiqs found that a majority of Americans support the BLM movement by a 28-point margin.  The Monmouth poll found that while 76 percent of Americans see racial and ethnic discrimination as a “big problem,” that doesn’t assume support for BLM.

FOLLOW THE MONEY – The Black Lives Matter is loosely organized with chapters across the country.  From what I learned, BLM has been more successful in fund-raising than the Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Coalition and Al Sharpton’s National Action Network.

Millions of dollars have been funneled to BLM from major corporations, foundations and celebrities, including $33 million from George Soros’ Open Society Foundation and $5 million from Cisco, the electronics firm.

The Los Angeles Times reported numerous companies are implementing donor-match programs that will match individual employee donations to Black Lives Matter with corporate funds, according to Breitbart.

PRESIDENT TRUMP, it appears, has his work cut out for him.  As I have written previously, he needs to continue to talk about his achievements with the Black community – low unemployment and higher wages going into the pandemic, permanent contributions to Black colleges and Universities, criminal/prison reform, and opportunity zone funding.  Clearly, that message is not sinking in.

He spoke to the world about his “horror, anger and grief” over the killing of George Floyd, and his “firm opposition to anyone exploiting this tragedy to loot, rob, attack and menace,” adding that “healing, not hatred, justice , not chaos are the mission at hand.”

In addition, he has met with Black law enforcement officers and religious figures to discuss the way forward to heal race relations.

Despite this background, the Pew survey indicates that 48 percent of adults say he has made race relations worse, and while 19 percent say he has made progress toward improving race relations, another 19 percent said he’s tried, but failed. And another 12 percent say the president hasn’t addressed the issue.

BUT KEEP IN MIND that when President Obama left office in 2016, Rasmussen Reports learned that 60 percent of likely voters believed that race relations were worse since he was elected in 2008, and just nine percent considered race relations better.

LAUGH-OF-THE-DAY – From columnist and blogger Jon Gabriel @exjon: “My favorite part about the Obama era is all the racial healing.”

FINALLY – Although I view the poll results with a great deal of skepticism, I am concerned that Americans are, amid the pandemic, again experiencing white guilt.  America is not racist.  In America, all lives matter.  If BLM succeeds, it will be fatal to America, and our way of life.

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
