WHAT NOW BROWN COW? – Democrat presidential challenger Joe Biden has been highly critical of the manner in which President Trump has handled the Chinese virus outbreak. There’s no reason to repeat his disparaging remarks about the president’s efforts.
“I would shut it down,” said Biden as recent as mid-August, “I would listen to the scientists.” As if the president wasn’t. The same scientists and medical experts he counted on while dealing with the H1N1 disease were advising Trump. Biden caused a panic when he said he would not recommend flying or subway transportation.
Biden also wanted to mandate the nation-wide wearing of masks. This was found to be unconstitutional and impossible to enforce, while debates on wearing a mask flourished. Even Dr. Anthony Fauci initially advised against wearing masks.
Biden’s campaign repeatedly said that their candidate would have handled the pandemic better. However, everything Biden said he would do was already being done by the president, including the consultation with medical leaders over the months, and invoking the Defense Production Act to encourage companies to produce needed medical supplies.
Using the media and campaign commercials to promote the fantasy of his ability to better handle the pandemic has seemingly worked, despite its falsehoods. In a CNBC/Change Research poll, 53 percent of the respondents said Biden would do a better job, compared with 47 percent who chose Trump.
Now we learn that 15,000 scientists and doctors worldwide – from Harvard, Stanford and Oxford – signed a document urging an end to pandemic lockdowns, arguing that the policies aimed at curtailing the novel coronavirus have produced “devastating” effects on public health
Suicide rates and other mental health crises, substance abuse and drug overdoses, economic devastation leading to hunger, domestic violence and other circumstances were cited by the group.
And even the leftist New York Times has admitted that “Operation Warp Speed,” the president’s strategy to expedite the development of a vaccine, has led experts to have “genuine confidence” that the pandemic will be over far faster than many anticipated
Using the phrase, “What now brown cow,” is not meant to be an elocution exercise here. I’m asking those who have bought into the fantasy of Biden being better-equipped to hand the virus, what now?
It appears that “science” has abandoned Biden. It’s time for his supporters to get real.
IN MICHIGAN, the state Supreme Court ordered their Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer not to attempt to resurrect her lockdown restrictions. She must now turn to the Republicans in the state house to seek reasonable guidelines.
THOSE POLLS – Regular readers will recall that I have published results of presidential polls as a matter of information. I have outlined how some of these polls were conducted, including the number of individuals queried, the number selected from each party, and importantly, was the poll done among registered voters or likely voters.
With that, I often remind readers of the polls at this time in 2016 had Hillary Clinton winning the presidency. It was evident that many of those poll respondents mislead the pollsters as to whom they planned to vote. It is assumed that a number of respondents are again protecting the privacy of their vote in this manner.
With that background, I thought I would pass along the thoughts of David Chapman and PollWatch, and their look beyond the liberal media polls. In the Townhall article, “By Every Historical Metric and Trend, Donald Trump Will Win This Election,” Matt Vespa delved into Chapman’s theory.
“(Chapman) nixes the idea that bad economies kill incumbents,” Vespa notes. “(except in the case) for Bush 41, historically the incumbent is 12-11 when facing reelection during an economic turndown.”
We all know that pre-pandemic, Trump had the advantage of a booming economy. He reluctantly closed down the economy to save lives from the Chinese virus. Voters will now have to assess confidence in his ability to restore the economy.
Keep in mind that a whopping 56 percent of respondents recently told Gallup that their family is better off now than four years ago.
Chapman also states that “no incumbent who has received at least 75 percent of the primary vote has lost reelection. Donald Trump received 94 percent of the primary vote, the fourth highest of all time. Higher than Eisenhower, Nixon, Clinton and Obama.”
Interestingly, Chapman notes that “Three times in history, America faced a pandemic, recession, and civil unrest during an election year. The incumbent party is 3 and 0 in those elections.”
Recognizing ABC’s poll that shows Trump with a 19-point enthusiasm advantage, Chapman notes that every candidate who held the edge in voter enthusiasm since 1988 has won the election.
Citing another example of enthusiasm, he relates that Pew Research gives Trump a 20 percent advantage in strength of support, noting that the leader of this poll won every election since 1964.
Consider the throngs who show up for an outdoor Trump rally at a local airport, but also events like the 700-car parade of decorated vehicles in the October 3, 2020 in Albany, New York, and massive boat parades in the waters of Florida and New Jersey
On Joe Biden, who has been in the Senate for nearly four decades, Chapman states that “no one who served more than 15 years in the Senate has been elected president.”
“By every historic metric and trend,” Vespa writes, “(Chapman believes) Trump is the one on the path of winning this election.”
Clearly, it’s another way of looking at the president’s prospects of winning next month.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
