“Ah, there’s good news tonight.”

Long before I became interested in politics, I recall listening to Gabriel Heatter, a radio commentator, with my Dad.  With all of the news we are facing, I decided to borrow Heatter’s famous line – “Ah there’s good news tonight” – that he adopted as his catchphrase. He was known for finding uplifting stories during World War II.

While I generally comment on a single issue or individual, I frequently find myself with a few topics I want to share with you because I view them as good news amongst the tripe.  The following piece, featuring the enlightening words of a black conservative, is just one.

“YOU ARE BEING HAD. You are being shaken down over a history that you had nothing to do with, and there has to be some standing up,” declared Shelby Steele of the Hoover Institute, a guest on “The American Crisis” series on Fox Primetime News Thursday with host Ben Domenech of The Federalist.

During a discussion of how critical race theory has found its way into curriculums of education at all levels, Steele said it “is a device to capture white guilt.  It has no other meaning. No other purpose.  No other function than that.

“It wants to capture, to once again accuse whites of racism.  It is created to advance black Americans by creating entitlements for them.”

“What bothers me most,” said Steele, “is that the whites … we have been doing this now for 70 years, and whites still don’t get the point.  You are being had.  You are being shaken down over a history that you had nothing to do with, and there has to be some standing up there.”

In his week-long series, designed to encourage Americans to “wake up,” Domenech’s choice of Steele as his guest was superb. But were America’s  corporate titans listening?  Those who have been persuaded by Biden’s claim of systemic racism, black lives matter, Project 1619, and critical race theory.

ANOTHER GOOD SIGN – “Trump’s grip on GOP sparks fears,” reads the banner headline across a page in the left-leaning Arizona Republic over a story about what the party is doing behind the scenes in states where voting protocols were abused.

After seeing voting procedures changed after voting began in Democrat-controlled Pennsylvania in 2020, one wonders how Harvard political scientist Steven Levitsky can accuse the GOP of “not willing to play by the rules of the game,” in his book, “How Democracies Die.”

SINEMA NO PUPPET OF THE LEFT – As a news junky, I just love it when the leftist media shows it true colors.  I’ve written here about the Arizona Republic’s leftist columnists Laurie Roberts and E. J. Montini, who took turns fawning over the late John McCain and gushing over Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, while working overtime to assure that Sen. Martha McSally was defeated in 2020.

“Sen. Sinema shows us she’s no John McCain,” headlined Roberts’ column Friday morning.  Just because Sinema once indicated her willingness to work across the aisle, Roberts has branded Sinema a “fool,” because she wouldn’t stand strong with the Democrat Party on ending the filibuster and the formation of a commission to investigate the January 6, 2021 protest at the nation’s capitol.

Roberts went so far as to call Sinema “naïve,” suggesting she is now “in the pocket” of the opposition just because she gave considerable thought to the issues.  I have no delusions that she will be voting with the GOP, but I think she’s smart enough to see through Ol’ Joe’s radical moves.

THAT $6 TRILLION SPENDING PLAN was enough to disturb most of us, but a chart from the Office of Management Budget in President Biden’s 2022 budget proposal showing a projection for annual real GDP growth was not good news, but a real eye-opener.

We will be going from what the Wall Street Journal has labeled as a “sugar high” in 2021 and 2022 with GDPs at 5.2 percent and 4.3 percent, respectively, but will sink to 2.2 percent in 2023 and then average below 1.9 percent over the next eight years.

As economist David Luskin noted, where’s the “better” in Build Back Better?

WOKE VICTIM – As a kid, I used to be a big fan of the Cleveland Indians with their big four pitching staff of Bob Feller, Bob Lemon, Early Wynn and Mike Garcia.  There was the wonderfully creative Indians’ iconic cartoon character, Chief Wahoo.  It’s gone. Now the name, “Indians,” will no longer be. How sad.  How pathetic.  Victims of political correctness.

Apparently, the Cleveland organization received nearly 3,000 suggestions for a new team name.  You can imagine that there were some colorful suggestions among them.

I no longer follow Major League Baseball.  For that matter, the NBA and the NFL, too. They succumbed to political correctness, and are now being extorted by Black Lives Matter.

And it isn’t stopping there.  One of the San Francisco Giants’ uniforms will have a rainbow motif.

When are the corporate wizards going to wake up?  Expect more to come with leftist individuals gaining positions on their boards.

Okay, not all good news, but news you can use.

Now, more than ever … may God continue to bless the United States of America.
