Commentary
Regular readers know that from time to time it becomes necessary for me to go through my stack of stuff … information I save to share with you when I take a break from single-subject posts. After taking a hiatus to host family visitors, it’s an opportune time to scan the stack.
The Danger of Early Voting
With the midterm election still eight weeks away, the Democrat party, aided by the leftist media, is attempting to tell you the races are neck and neck. Republicans are not talking about a red wave because they want their voters to show up at the polls.
A subscriber told me he was hoping for a 2010-like shellacking, but he wasn’t confident of the turnout. Another voiced a similar concern and asked that I encourage people to get out and vote.
Early voting has already begun in North Carolina, with Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin not far off. North Carolina officials warn that, “Once you return your ballot, you may not change or cancel your vote.”
Will Pennsylvania voters be willing to take a chance by voting early for Democrat John Fetterman, who is still recovering from a stroke, having speech difficulties, and unwilling to debate his opponent, Republican Mehmet Oz?
A number of candidates are still scheduled to debate in October. And, remember there’s always the chance of an October surprise.
If you receive a mail-in ballot, I urge you to hold onto it as long as you can before mailing, but allowing mail time.
Something to Ponder
President Obama authorized a Seal Team to take out Osama bin Laden. President Trump authorized a drone-fired Hellfire missile to kill Iranian terrorist Qasem Soleimani. And President Biden similarly authorized the drone missile to kill al Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahiri.
Each of them was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans, our allies and in-country locals who aided us.
A recent Wall Street Journal article, “Inside the Mexican Cartels That Rule Fentanyl Smuggling,” a team of writers wrote about the fentanyl laboratories producing the pills that killed 108,000 lives in the U.S. last year. While we have been fortunate to stop a number of vehicles attempting to smuggle the pills across our border, too many make it through.
Now ponder this: How is an American death by fentanyl different than death by a bullet or roadside IED? If the Journal can visit a lab and take photographs, we certainly have the covert intelligence capability within our CIA to systematically destroy the labs, one by one.
From CNN to Harvard
Isn’t it interesting how the leftist media and university crowd takes care of their own. Brian Stelter, formerly with CNN, will now be filling students at the Harvard Kennedy School with a head full of mush using Democrat talking points. While at CNN he obliged the Biden administration by talking about the threat to democracy posed by Republicans.
They Never Give Up
As a supporter of Judicial Watch, I was encouraged to read in its latest newsletter, Verdict, that they are continuing to keep the pressure on people and organizations in an effort to bring about transparency and accountability.
They sought and received records revealing critical race theory instruction at West Point. They sued New York City and New York State for failing to remove hundreds of thousands of ineligible voters from the rolls as the law requires. They’re seeking the release of testimony by Obama IRS officials Lois Lerner and Holly Paz over the issue of targeting conservative groups. They’re attempting to get the University of Delaware to provide transparency of Biden’s Senate documents.
The Demise of Political Dynasties
There were two pieces in the stack about the end of modern political dynasties, generated by Liz Cheney’s loss in Wyoming, that I found interesting.
Not even Dick Cheney, who served as President Gerald Ford’s chief of staff, as a member of the House, and secretary of defense prior to his selection as President George W. Bush’s vice president, couldn’t save his daughter’s political career. While she is said to be considering a run for president, she’s finished. One of the mainstream networks might be interested in a GOP-basher.
The Bush dynasty ended with George Prescott Bush’s loss in his attempt to unseat Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Although there is talk among pundits about Michelle Obama running for president and we see the deluded Hillary Clinton still chomping at the bit for another run, neither is in the cards.
“The end of political dynasties represents the decline of the establishment wings of both parties and the desire by voters to have change and new blood in Washington,” wrote Paul Bedard in the Washington Examiner.
Politically, there is a concern that dynasties stifle new thinking. We saw how former President Trump, a Washington outsider, was able to bring a business man’s thinking to the office, challenging the old ways of Washington.
After Cheney’s loss, Democrat pollster John Zogby said, “It looks like the end of the notion of a D.C. elite. I don’t see any other family on the horizon.”
Just 54 days until the midterms. May God continue to bless the United States of America.
