Joe Biden is the President, but Who’s Running the Show?

Commentary

“Who’s in charge in the White House?” That question surfaces every time Biden, the placeholder, says or does something that reflects negatively on his competency, his inability to carry out the duties of president.

Jill Biden is frequently on hand to steer him in the direction of the lectern, but when he gets there, he needs a Teleprompter.  Without it, he’s lost.  He recently referred to Rep. Don Beyer as Doug four times during an appearance.

Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain, has been credited with guiding him through his progressive agenda, but he’s on the way out.

Two other individuals working in Biden’s inner circle are Bob Bauer, his personal lawyer, and Anita Dunn, a close advisor.  Together, they are husband and wife, with several decades of providing cover for a long list of Democrats.

Legal Counsel

Bauer is responsible for the strategy of cooperating with investigators after the discovery of classified documents at the Penn Biden Center, and has been managing the drip, drip, drip of subsequent document discoveries.

A former White House counsel for Barack Obama, Bauer received high marks from Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett for his ability to deliver bad news to those who don’t want to hear it, relating that he doesn’t get rattled and won’t go weak-kneed.

When Biden formed his Presidential Commission to consider additional positions on the Supreme Court, he appointed Bauer as co-chair.

On the PR Side

Dunn served as acting White House Communications Director for Obama, and was an advisor to the Biden presidential transition.  She has worked on six Democrat presidential campaigns over four decades, beginning with Jimmy Carter.

Her resume includes work for a virtual who’s who in the Democrat Party – John Glenn, Bill Bradley, Tom Daschle, Evan Bayh, Lloyd Doggett, and Al Gore.  She has also worked for a number of high-powered corporate executives as a partner in SKDK, a public affairs and political consulting firm.

She advised Obama during his 2008 campaign, and is credited with training Robert Gibbs as the White House Press Secretary.  She helped prepare Obama for his 2012 debates.

She was hired as Biden’s senior advisor in 2020, and is reportedly involved in the strategic planning for his 2024 re-election campaign.  With her credentials, one has to wonder why she hasn’t advised Biden to replace Karine Jean-Pierre.

Bauer and Dunn are known as Washington’s power couple, with Bauer referred to as the godfather of Democrat election lawyers and Dunn as the city’s Grande dame of public relations.  Few unelected couples have become as influential as Bauer and Dunn.

Can you imagine the conversation between the pair over cocktails at the end of the day?

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
