Out of curiosity, I printed a copy of the Democratic Socialists of America’s 2025-2026 program, “Workers Deserve More.” Reminded of the early education Dick and Jane book series of my childhood, I’m not sure at what reading level this document was written, but the creator relies heavily on more than a dozen illustrations and brief goal explanations, three of which I am inserting throughout this review.
Its “Workers Deserve More” program calls for public ownership of major corporations, an end to immigrant detention and deportations, voting rights for noncitizens, limits on Supreme Court judicial review and a new constitution based on a single federal legislature. Goodbye to our three branches: legislative, executive and judicial branches of government.
DSA Nirvana: An Unattainable Dream
“If we lived in a classless society and governed ourselves, we could freely build a world without war or poverty. We could build a world where no one suffers for their race, gender, or religion, and everyone is free, equal, and cared for. Building this world is the guiding star of our movement. When we labor for our common good instead of private profit, we can all have a secure and dignified life and use our time and talents how we wish.”
Michigan Democrat Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed is attempting to distance himself from the DSA, while on record as a supporter for years, appearing at socialist events. And the left-wing activist Hasan Piker, who once said “America deserved 9/11,” and now denies it, appeared at an El-Sayed rally.
Known for his defund the police and his anti-Israel statements, El-Sayed is hoping to be the candidate to replace the retiring Sen. Gary Peters. The GOP’s hopes are behind former Rep. Mike Rogers.
Leftists Who Disapprove of DSA
Appearing on ABC, leftist commentator Bill Maher again surprised his followers, commenting on the Democratic Socialists of America: “I read every day, I read about a new person in some Colorado and Wisconsin, somebody who is saying some variation of not defund the police, abolish the police. No prisons, no police. Like, what world do they think we could possibly live in under these conditions? It’s just a level of nutty that I’m so glad that whenever it was, I was like, no I’m not going along because this is where it ends.”
“Some people in groups like the Democratic Socialists of America are pushing an agenda FAR outside left-wing positions like Medicare for All and criminal justice reform.
Then there was the liberal pundit Van Jones, who told CNN Outfront host Erin Burnett that his phone has been “blowing up” with praise from lawmakers and government officials from both parties after he took a swing at democratic socialists online. “Thanking me for saying what everybody’s been saying behind the scenes,”
“Supporting Hamas is not progressive. ‘No police, no prisons, no borders’ are not progressive. Celebrating the murder of Israeli civilians is not progressive. These ideas are regressive,” Jones added.
“I’ve done prison reform. I never said, ‘Have no prisons,’” he added. “I’ve done police reform. I never said, ‘No police.’ Where are you going to put the pedophiles? Who’s going to grab the pedophiles?”
A Conservative’s View
Karl Rove, senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to President George W. Bush, one on the conservative side to criticize the DSA ideology, detailed the long list of DSA promises in his Wall Street Journal column, “Will Democrats Disavow the DSA Platform.”
The answer is ‘not so far.’ Democrat “leaders” Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer have been mum, allowing Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Alexandra Ocasio-Coretez to take the stage with DSA candidates.
Surely, they know that socialism – by any name – hasn’t succeeded anywhere.
“Democrats need to find the courage,” writes Rove, “to say that the DSA is a wrecking ball that threatens to destroy both the party and America.”
