It Turns Out Putting the Biden’s in the Rearview Mirror is Easier Said than Done

Commentary

Like Kamala Harris, the Biden’s are in the news again, but not to help the Democrat Party when it needs it.

Former first lady Jill Biden made headlines when she made a stunning admission of what many debate viewers I’m sure considered – that her husband was “having a stoke.”

He had shocked the nation during the debate, repeatedly freezing on camera, fumbling for answers and appearing confused.

Her admission came during her appearance on CBS News to promote her book, “View from the East Wing: A Memoir,” due to be released on June 2, 2026.

“I don’t know what happened. As I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh, my God, he’s having a stroke.  And it scared me to death.  I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since.  Never,” she said.

“Joe – you did such a great job.”

Minutes after the debate, however, the Biden’s appeared at a small gathering at an Atlanta Waffle House, where Jill was seemingly oblivious to what she had just experienced.

All smiles, she said, “Joe – you did such a great job,” to the applause of supporters. “You answered every question; you knew all the facts.”

Subsequently, she defended her husband to those who doubted his mental capabilities.  With a tense relationship with Harris, she fiercely advocated that he stay in the race after the debate.

After the debate, the president said, “You know, Jill, I don’t know what happened.” To which she calmly responded “We will not let those 90 minutes define the four years he’s been president. We will continue to fight.”

Regular readers may recall that I was critical of the former first lady for encouraging him to run, agreeing with the board of the New York Post that it was “elder abuse,” and a “fraud on the American people.”

Featured on the cover of Vogue magazine twice, she enjoyed the attention and the power of the White House, where observers viewed her as being in charge.  She even appeared at a rare cabinet meeting.

Meanwhile, while the former president has made a few rather low-key appearances recently, as a treatment plan for prostate cancer involves radiation therapy and hormone treatment.

Now he’s trying to block the Trump administration’s effort to release 70 hours of partially redacted audio recordings of interviews he conducted in 2017 with a ghostwriter who worked on his memoirs.

What he told him was revealed to Special Counsel Robert Hur, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2023 to investigate Biden’s stash of classified files found in his home and a think tank, the DOJ opposed release of the interview exchange.

He claims, “I didn’t share classified information. Guarantee you I did not.”  After reading Hur’s report, as I did, I find that it is hard to believe, considering his memory lapses.

In addition to the Trump administration, Congress and the Heritage Foundation have filed freedom of information documents to secure release of the recordings.

Trump’s interest, of course, stems from the unprecedented August 8, 2022, raid on Mar-a-Logo personally authorized by Garland.  The raid over several days involved more than a hundred FBI and other law enforcement agencies, compared to the lesser involvement in searches at Biden’s home and other offices.

In my May 24, 2024, blog, I wrote that I was willing to put the Bidens in the rearview mirror, but it now appears “things may appear further than you think.”

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
