In recent posts, I have mentioned the anti-Trump activity being witnessed in sanctuary cities and college campuses, but primarily in the media and among Obama loyalists in Washington DC.
We’ve seen the marches and protests, the personal assassination and slow-walking of cabinet nominees by Senate Democrats, intelligence leaks and the calls for resignations, primarily by sore losers from the Clinton campaign and the leftist Organizing for America group, who are promoting obstruction and resistance.
Even the left-leaning Politico has reported that many government employees have set up new e-mail addresses and are using encrypted messaging apps to hold anti-Trump conversations and to communicate with the press. Some 1,000 career employees at the State Department have signed a memo that expresses condemnation of the president’s travel ban.
Students of history may see this being reminiscent of the 1940s concerns of “fifth column” organizations formed from within to initiate open and undercover activities to undermine the government. Far fetched?
With the activity surrounding the ouster of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, we learned that President Obama unceremoniously expanded the power of the NSA just before leaving office. It allows the agency to share globally intercepted personal communications with the government’s 16 other intelligence agencies before applying privacy protections. Hmmmm.
The Washington Free Beacon has reported an effort by former Obama officials, said to include former advisor Ben Rhodes, to plant damaging stories to harm Flynn, who was an opponent of the Iran deal. A clear example of following Rule #12 of Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals – Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.
With Democrats and some Republicans calling for an investigation into the leaks, former CIA analyst and Army Reserve Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer said, “be careful what you wish for.” He lays it all at the feet of former Obama intelligence individuals John Brennan and James Clapper and others in the Obama White House, saying “bring it on.”
Maryland Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings, who routinely obstructed the investigation of Hillary Clinton e-mails and Benghazi as the senior Democrat on the House Oversight and Reform Committee, has now called for a full investigation on Flynn. Incidentally, Cummings and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) were both fooled by a fake tweet they thought was authored by Flynn.
With Trump’s Department of Justice under Jeff Sessions now asked to look into the leaks, it will be a real test for the department that, under Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, has been a total embarrassment.
Stay tuned.
