Here are my observations and opinions of some items in the news.
UNEXPECTED OPINION – I was taken aback by a wonderfully written editorial about the investigations taking place in Washington DC … by the staff of the Boston Herald. I want to share some excerpts with you.
“What’s being splayed out in front of the American people is a sham political investigation and third-rate propagandizing by a complicit media,” they write.
After reviewing all of the investigations surrounding “the integrity of our intelligence services, the ethical lapses of the Democrat National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign as well as the dubious maneuverings of the Obama administration,” they state, “It is ugly to witness, and Americans across the spectrum reject it when it is exposed, as it is now.”
Referring to the Robert Mueller investigation, they remark, “It’s all nonsense. We are so far from anything to do with Russian collusion that the pursuit of Trump has become almost comical.”
“The establishment forces trying to run down this president should remember what his political ascent looked like. He exposed the competition as being fake, robotic, dishonest and empty. He stole the show by daring to buck the system and his sheer determination and cunning were marvelous to watch.
“Let the media, Democrats and Washington bureaucrats keep piling on him in clear view. It reveals more about them than him,” they conclude.
ROMNEY NO SHOO-IN – Utah State Representative Mike Kennedy, a doctor, garnered 51 percent of the votes in Saturday’s Republican runoff for the Senate seat vacating by Sen. Orin Hatch, while Mitt Romney received 49 percent. Eleven other candidates forced a wide split in the votes.
Romney is still considered the favorite to win in the June 26, 2018 primary.
You will recall that Romney hurled insults at candidate Trump, calling him a “con man” and a “phony.” President Trump attempted to bury the hatchet by having dinner with him in New York when he was considering Romney for the secretary of state position.
While Romney has accepted the president’s endorsement, and could be expected to support the Trump agenda, he has indicated that he has not decided whether he will endorse the president’s 2020 re-election bid. That, Mitt, is a mistake.
DISREGARD THAT BLUE WAVE prediction. “To hear Democrats tell it; the election is in the bag and Nancy Pelosi is already measuring for new drapes in the speaker’s office,” writes Rick Moran at PJMedia.com.
A new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll casts a more realistic light on Democrats’ chances. There is little doubt that Trump hatred is giving the Democrats an edge in voter intensity. But the numbers that would signal a blue wave just aren’t there. And against all odds, the president’s approval numbers are as high now as they have been at any time since he was inaugurated.
Moran reminds his readers that “Democrats are angry and angry people vote. (Kind of like Republicans who made sure that Hillary didn’t win in 2016.) Unless the GOP has a “get out the vote” program that exceeds anything previously seen, they are going to be in trouble.”
NEVER SAY NEVER, writes Irwin Stelzer in weeklystandard.com, “That’s what some of the Never Trumpers are saying, and even more are thinking. Both in private. They are afflicted with a nagging suspicion. Trump might … how shall they whisper it … Make America Great Again.” This from the publication with the unpredictable Bill Kristol at the helm. Though the Weekly Standard boasts of being “unapologetically conservative and fiercely independent,” it has not been a strong supporter of the president.
THE NINTH CIRCUIT COURT wackos are at it again. The leftist judges have appointed a “special prosecutor” to challenge President Trump’s pardon power. They continue to be opposed to the pardon of former Maricopa County Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
It’s simply another example of judges rewriting the law from the bench. The judges are prosecuting the president’s lawful exercise of executive power and discretion. A clear violation of the separation of powers.
ON THE SUBJECT OF WACKOS – The headline, “The Most Dangerous Democrat in America,” over a piece written by Michael Walsh for PJMedia.com caught my attention for obvious reasons.
“Imagine a combination of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and you’ve got Kamela Harris, the current seat-warming senator from California,” writes Walsh. You may recall that she won the seat vacated by Barbara Boxer.
Some of that analogy comes from her considering a run for the presidency after serving just 15 months in the Senate, like Obama. The similarity of Harris to Hillary Clinton comes from her sex and use of identity politics to push her progressive ideological zealotry.
Fellow senators have been critical of her dedication to imaginary “rights,” and her ignorance of the Constitution, which I have written about in previous blog posts.
“California voters have not historically been impressed when one of their state politicians decides to take a run for president,” says Walsh, who reports that in a recent poll, 28 percent of California voters say they don’t know or have no opinion of Harris. “Even as progressives tout her as one of the top 2020 contenders, Harris remains something of a mystery back home.”
