Bidin’ his time … female journalists comment on Biden … unemployment applications at 49-year low … attention voters … and Brexit: What would Thatcher do?

Here are my observations and opinions on my selected news of the day.

Original “Girl Crazy” program cover.

BIDEN HIS TIME – While watching the news last night, one of the talking heads said Joe was biding his time as he thinks about entering the Democrat presidential race. Oddly, the words “biding his time,” reminded me of the Gershwin song, “Bidin’ My Time,” sung in the 1930’s Broadway show, “Girl Crazy.”

“I’m bidin’ my time, ‘cause that’s the kind of guy I am; while other folks grow dizzy, I keep busy, bidin’ my time … Next year, next year, somethin’s bound to happen … This year, this year, I’ll just keep on mappin’… and bidin’ my time, ‘cause that’s that the kind of guy I am, there’s no regretting, when I’m settin, bidin’ my time.

But enough of the musical memories.

“(Biden’s) fundamental offense is not realizing that some people might not be as into Joe Biden as Joe Biden is into Joe Biden,” writes Rich Lowry in National Review, “he has an ego, not a libido, problem.

“He really thinks he’s the most charming man in the room and a master at human interaction. In his view, he’s doing everyone a favor by giving them a warm bath of Biden.

“It’s truly never occurred to him that some women might not want to be grabbed, smelled, held, nuzzled, Eskimo-kissed, whispered to, and generally handled by their great champion and defender, Joe Biden.

In his apology-lacking Instagram message, Biden would have you believe social norms have changed, and that he’ll change … “I get it … I get it.” Sure, Joe, sure.

To use Biden’s own term, he believes his own malarkey, notes Lowry.

Two female journalists comment:

Moira Donegan, The Guardian: “If he’s not malicious, but merely incompetent, this is hardly a defense, and it is certainly not an argument that this socially incompetent man should be given the most powerful job in the world.”

Michelle Goldberg, New York Times: “He is a product of his time, but that time is up.”

THE NUMBER OF AMERICANS filing applications for unemployment benefits dropped to a more than 49-year low last week, pointing to sustained labor market strength, according to CNBC.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits declined 10,000 to seasonally adjusted 202,000 for the week ended March 30, 2019

ATTENTION VOTERS, especially those of you claim to be Independent. I view you as generally pleased with the promises kept by President Trump, but you are disappointed in his behavior. We conservative Republicans, and perhaps some of you, too, were tired of the ways of “old Washington,” and elected him to the presidency, warts and all.

Some of you may have strayed to the left and returned the House to the Democrat Party. How did that work out for you? Have you thought about those young freshmen, those “ladies in white,” who campaigned to make a difference? There are a few – Ocasio-Cortez, Omar and Tlaib – who are making a name for themselves, but are achieving nothing else.

While they merely provide what’s called constituent services, old-timers Maxine Waters, Jerrold Nadler and Adam Schiff are embarrassing their party playing politics.

Democrats, you will recall, wanted Special Counsel Mueller protected from being fired by President Trump, even though he said he wasn’t going to do so. Allow Mueller to complete his investigation, they demanded.

Many said they would accept his findings, but now they are prepared to subpoena Attorney General Bill Barr for the complete, unredacted report.

If that’s not enough, Democrats insist that there’s no crisis on the border while thousands of illegals are spreading out across the country, perhaps into your community.

Because obstructionist Democrat senators have been “sitting on” the president’s nominees for judicial and ambassadorial positions, some for longer than a year, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has had to revert to the nuclear option to move them forward.

There’s more. They still want the president to release his tax returns, for as many as 10 years before he became president. As kids, we used to say, “it’s none of your beeswax.”

Radical Democrat presidential hopefuls are supporting the Green New Deal, even though they didn’t have the courage to vote for it recently. They seek a single-payer health insurance plan or Medicare-for-all, both ill-conceived. Then there’s free college tuition, a universal basic income and other “free stuff.”

So, to my Independent friends, as you watch the obstructionists of the Democrat Party attempt to slow the pace of the Trump presidency, I hope you will recognize the opportunity you have to keep America great.

BREXIT: What would Margaret Thatcher Do?: “I would never be prepared to give up our own currency. The great issue in this election, indeed the greatest issue election issue before our country, is whether Britain is to remain a free, independent, nation state. Or whether we are to be dissolved in a federal Europe. There are no half measures, no third ways – and no second choices. Too many powers have already passed from our Parliament to the bureaucracy in Brussels. We must get them back.” – from a March 20, 2019 New York Sun editorial and the Wall Street Journal’s Notable & Quotable column.

May God bless the United States of America.
