Let’s put an end to hyphenated Americans

“This is not a liberal America and a conservative America – there is the United States of America.  There’s not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America – there’s the United State of America.” – Barack Obama, 2004 Democratic National Convention Keynote Address

He also said he didn’t want to pit Blue America against Red America, giving a lot of people, including a number of whites, high hopes for a Barack Obama in 2008. … read more

Is the American flag next up for “the offended?”

It’s unfortunate that we cannot generate the same protective enthusiasm for our American flag that some have generated for the denigration of the Confederate Battle Flag.

Demonstrators dance on an American Flag during a weekly Occupy Denver protest at Civic Center. Earlier that day, protesters avoided interference at the Veterans Day parade and issued a statement that read; "Occupy Denver supports the valor and sacrifice of the men and women of our armed forces, and unilaterally wishes to show unwavering support and respect for the Veterans Day Parade."

Enter the First Lady, Michele Obama.  Speaking at the dedication of the $429 million Whitney museum, she told the assembled audience that museums and other cultural centers are really only welcoming to white people.

“You see, there are so many kids in this country who look at places like museums and concert halls and other cultural centers and they think to themselves, well, that’s not a place for me, for someone who looks like me, for someone who comes from my neighborhood,” she said.  “In fact, I guarantee you that right now, there are kids living less than a mile from here who would never in a million years dream that they would be welcome in this museum,” she added. Something to think about

No doubt you have heard the discussion taking place in the media about the contest to draw a cartoon likeness of the prophet Mohammed sponsored in Garland, Texas.  Two terrorists (calling them what they are) attempting to disrupt the gathering with AK-47s, were shot and killed by police.

While most people believe that drawing the Prophet is covered by the First Amendment, there are those, including Fox’s Bill O’Reilly, who agree, but say we shouldn’t taunt Muslims by defaming the Prophet.… read more
