An unusual request for help at the UN

“In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri – where a young man was killed, and a community was divided.”

Unbelievably, those were the words of President Obama as he brought to a close his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday intended to seek support for the war against – my words – Islamic extremists.

“So yes, we have our own racial tensions,” he went on to say, “And like every country, we have our racial and ethnic tensions.”

Can you believe it? Comparing the Ferguson shooting to the beheading and mass killings by ISIL, al Qaeda and other Islamist extremist spin-offs?

Nine paragraphs into his speech, he finally gets to the point. “There is much to be done to meet the tests of this moment. But today I’d like to focus on two defining questions at the root of many our challenges – whether the nations here today will be able to renew the purpose of the UN’s founding (he’s dreaming); and whether we will come together to reject the cancer of extremism (not likely).”  He left them with this less than memorable quote, “For America, the choice is clear.  We choose hope over fear.”  “Hope,” where have we heard that before?

We are facing the most barbaric, evil terrorists we could have imagined, and our president is talking “hope?”

I was also taken aback by an earlier statement in his speech. “I have made it clear that America will not base our entire foreign policy on reacting to terrorism. Rather, we have waged a focused campaign against al Qaeda and its associated forces – taking out their leaders, and denying them the safe havens they rely upon.”  Then he said, “At the same time, we have reaffirmed that the United States is not and never will be at war with Islam.  Islam teaches peace.  Muslims the world over aspire to live with dignity and a sense of justice.  And when it comes to America and Islam, there is no us and them – there is only us, because millions of Muslim Americans are part of the fabric of our country.”  Really, Mr. President?  How do you think Americans would respond to a poll on that?

We haven’t seen any response to your request of Muslims, Mr. President, “to explicitly, forcefully, and consistently reject the ideology of al Qaeda and ISIL.”

Answering America’s critics, who point out that we too have failed to live up to our ideals, the president said “ … like every country, we continually wrestle with how to reconcile the vast changes wrought by globalization and greater diversity with the traditions that we hold dear.” And the majority of us, Mr. President, will continue to fight this change you called for in 2008.

“We are five days away from transforming the United States of America.”

We are the freedom-loving people who choose to follow the Constitution.

The president continued, as if to resume his apology tour of five years ago,  inviting the scrutiny of the world as we work to “make our union more perfect and stating that America isn’t the same as it was 100 years ago, 50 years ago, or even a decade ago.”

Then, if it wasn’t so serious, it would be  laughable, he told the General Assembly audience, “Because we fight for our ideals, and are willing to criticize ourselves when we fall short. Because we hold our leaders accountable, and insist on a free press and independent judiciary. Because we address our differences in the open space of democracy – with respect for the rule of law, with a place for people of every race and religion; and an unyielding belief in the ability of individual men and women to change their communities and countries for the better.”

I wonder how this president can look at himself in the mirror after saying what he says. (freerepublic.com)

How can President Obama look at himself in the mirror?

When he took office, comprehensive immigration and universal health care were at the top of his list of ideals.  He postponed his effort on immigration after promise after promise to Hispanic voters.  ObamaCare has been an utter failure with the worst impact yet to come, and we just learned that HealthCare.gov has cost $2 billion.  He has fallen far short, but hasn’t  criticized himself.  In fact he calls it a success.

Holding our leaders accountable.  We can do that with elected officials at the voting booth and God help us if we don’t.  But what about those leaders you have appointed, Mr. President? Kathleen Sebelious, Eric Shinseki and Hillary Clinton all escaped accountability by resigning. And you complimented each of them on the job they did in your administration.   What about those who participated in the IRS cover-up?  “Phony scandals?”

The free press?  Have you already forgotten the spying you did on the Associated Press and Fox’s James Rosen?

Independent judiciary?  Is that where Attorney General Eric Holder protects you from Fast & Furious and puts Obama-donor Barbara Bosserman at Justice in charge of investigating the IRS?

Respecting the rule-of-law?  Even if I give you the benefit of the doubt on your executive orders, the Supreme Court did rule you broke the law by making those recess appointments. And the jury is still out on your many changes and waivers to ObamaCare after it became law.

A place for every religion?  What has happened to the military chaplaincy and why has “God” been removed from the oath at the Air Force Academy?

Individual men and women to change their communities and countries for the better? Would you be referring to a certain community organizer who now wants to change the country to reflect his ideal?

After reading the transcript of this speech, I am more certain that we have a commander-in-chief who doesn’t understand the threat, nor the urgency of the mission.
