With appearances of the GOP candidates picking up of late and new “old” candidates throwing their hats in the ring, I thought it was time to give you another look and a comment on Fox News First’s Power Index, courtesy of Chris Stirewalt.
Jeb Bush continues to hold down the top spot though I don’t know why. He’s followed by Scott Walker, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz in the next three places. Interestingly, Carly Fiorina and John Kasich have captured places five and six, followed by Rand Paul, Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee and Chris Christie. Officially, Bush, Walker, Kasich and Christie have not yet declared their candidacy.
As for those On the Radar … Perry, Santorum, Jindal, Graham and Pataki … they’ve been saying the right things, but why bother, I don’t think they can be elected.
Stirewalt reports that Scott Walker has a seven point lead over his nearest competitor in Iowa and quotes Walker telling New Hampshire audiences, “We don’t need to get into open-ended, endless engagements … I don’t think we should be the world’s policeman … (and) I don’t think we should go in everywhere.” Okay, but what would you do to stop ISIS, Govenor?
I was also happy to read that Carly Fiorina’s favorability jumped from 15 to 41 per cent in the Des Moines/Bloomberg Politics Iowa Poll between January and May.
On the Democrat side, Stirewalt, quoting the Huffington Post, poses an interesting dilemma for Hillary Clinton, who “While serving as secretary of state said that she was ‘inclined’ to approve the (Keystone) pipeline.” But now she has to decide if she is going to respect the backing of environmentalists or the two Canadian banks with financial ties to TransCanada, the company behind the pipeline, both of which paid her for speeches in 2014 and 2015. And, a one time U.S. ambassador to Canada and lobbyist for TransCanada, Gordon Giffin, was once a bundler for Hillary’s 2008 campaign. Hmmmmmm.
It’s getting interesting.
