Strassel on target … Dems distract … immunity revisited … Ivanka Trump

My observations on items in the news.

WSJ columnist Kimberly Strassel writes insightful piece on Rep. Devin Nunes. (realclearpolitics.com)

INSIGHTFUL OPINION PIECE ON REP. NUNES – While many television pundits are calling for House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes to recuse himself from his committee’s investigation of possible Trump administration connections with Russia, Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel wrote a truly insightful piece on Nunes and the investigation.

The liberal media was sucked in by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the ranking minority member of the committee, who was out to get Nunes, accusing him of carrying water for the president while undermining the committee’s investigation. “The press dutifully regurgitated the outrage, as well as Mr. Schiff’s calls for Mr. Nunes to recuse himself from the investigation into possible Russian electoral meddling,” wrote Strassel.

“Mr. Nunes has zero reason to recuse himself from this probe, because he is doing his job. It’s Mr. Schiff who ought to be considering recusal, for failing to do his own,” said Strassel, “… Schiff may not offer much by way of substance, but give him marks for political flim flam.”

WHILE DEMOCRATS ATTEMPT TO DISTRACT with their obsession over the ongoing investigations into Russian meddling, his failure to pass ObamaCare repeal and replace, and threatening to filibuster the Judge Gorsuch nomination, the leftist media is doing their best to deflect attention from President Trump as he continues to press on with his agenda of fulfilling his campaign promises.

While President Trump has accomplished more in his first 70 days in office than most presidents, the media naturally focuses on the negatives. Even Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan, who is normally a clear thinker, focused on his “Mistakes, He’s Made a Few Too Many,” this weekend.

HOW QUICKLY WE FORGET – Democrats and their enabling media got all excited over Michael Flynn’s agreement to testify if given immunity. It hasn’t been that long ago that FBI Director James Comey approved five immunity agreements during the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified documents and use of private e-mail. Included were agreements given to two of Clinton’s aides, Heather Samuelson and Cheryl Mills, and IT associate Bryan Pagliano. As you have now surmised, I didn’t forget.

AND I HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN that former President Bill Clinton appointed Hillary Clinton to head up his 1993 task force to sell his healthcare reform package. Unsuccessful, the bill was declared dead on Sept. 26, 1994.

Why is this important? Because President Trump is now being criticized for appointing his daughter, Ivanka, to work in a non-paying advisory role. The claws have been out to sabotage her success since she began campaigning for her father.

In a recent article by Nicole Russell in The Federalist, “If Ivanka Trump Were A Democrat, She’d Be A Feminist Hero,” Russell calls readers attention to a hit piece in the magazine Fast Company, in which Ivanka is attacked for supporting her rich father, accused of sexual harassment.

“Compare that to the glowing review in The Atlantic of Chelsea Clinton,” writes Russell, “daughter not only of former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton but President Bill Clinton, who was impeached for perjury related to sexual misconduct, and both of whose lifelong political careers have been constantly dogged with scandal.”

“Chelsea Clinton … the once and possible future first daughter,” The Atlantic piece boasts, “has always been mature and accomplished beyond her years. Now 36, she has a child at home and another on the way, three advanced degrees, one book to her name, and a second coming next year. She plays a high-profile role as vice chair of the family’s global philanthropic foundation. On the side, she teaches, writes, gives speeches and sits on corporate and nonprofit boards.”

It’s obvious the party of tolerance is showing itself, yet again, to be the most intolerant, because Ivanka embraces her own issues in support of her father’s presidency.

WHO DO YOU TRUST – CNN OR MSNBC? It seemed as though liberal Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) appeared “live” on CNN’s OutFront and MSNBC’s Hardball simultaneously on March 22, 2017, but it was MSNBC’s interview that was actually “live.” Oops.
