Here are my observations and opinions on items in the news.
#2 AT DOJ – Rod Rosenstein – was appointed by President Trump, but you would never know it by the way he is stonewalling Congressional oversight requests documents.
While Republican members of the House are circulating draft articles of impeachment against him, Rosenstein said Tuesday, “They should know by now that the Department of Justice is not going to be extorted, and that any kind of threats that anybody makes are not going to affect the way we do our job.”
He also warned against what he said were “the pitfalls of allowing Congress too much access to continuing investigations.”
While saying that he welcomes oversight, he believes “it would be dangerous to just open our doors to allow Congress to come and rummage through the files.”
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) views Rosenstein as “uncooperative,” and remarked, “If he believes being asked to do his job is ‘extortion,‘ then he should step aside and allow us to find a new deputy attorney general.”
Just in case you have forgotten – Rosenstein is also responsible for selecting Robert Mueller to be general counsel, and for giving him carte blanche to take the Russian collusion investigation wherever he saw fit.
In addition, he authorized those FISA Court requests to spy on the Trump campaign and transition teams.
WHICH REMINDS ME – When will one of those patriotic FISA Court judges step forward and admit he or she was duped by the FBI’s declaration of accuracy of the anti-Trump dossier, and the agency’s failure to inform the Court that the dossier was paid for by the opposition, Hillary Clinton and the DNC. I’m still waiting.
DEMOCRAT LAWMAKERS daily demonstrate their resistance to the advancement of the Trump presidency as they delay confirmation of administration nominees for cabinet positions and ambassadorships. Now we are learning that they are being aided by hostile career bureaucrats of “the swamp” in blocking the president’s agenda by holding up security clearances.
These Obama holdovers, who make up the Deep State, are “quietly usurping presidential prerogatives through a litany of seemingly small but slowly compounding abuses of bureaucratic power,” says Sean M. Bigley, a national security attorney.
Across the federal government, what was long an apolitical process with clearly defined standards has devolved to the point that wildly unfounded accusations are now being used to smear reputations and settle petty vendettas, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The recent scuttling of the nomination of Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson to head the VA with unfounded rumors comes to mind.
From here on, I am renaming “the Swamp to “the Sewer.”

THE BOY SCOUTS ARE NO MORE – The handwriting was on the wall last fall with the decision to include girls. The new name is Scouts BSA. Rather meaningless as the parent organization will still be Boy Scouts of America. Girls will be permitted to join Scouts BSA next year.

I tried to imagine what former President Gerald R. Ford, the first Eagle Scout to become president of the United States, would say about this rebranding of this 108-year old organization founded to help mold young boys into men. Unfortunately, I think he would have seen it as the politically correct thing to do.
One by one, respected icons are disappearing or are forced to change. For what?
