Here are my observations and opinions on my selected news items of the day.
TAKING A SECOND LOOK – On Monday I wrote about the black women who want a black woman on the presidential ticket in 2020; presumably the Democrat ticket. MSNBC’s Joy Reid said, “They can’t run two white guys.”
Since then, I came across an account of an interview CNN’s Van Jones had with Democrat Sen. Kristen Gillibrand in a piece, “Do Democrats Have A White Man Problem?” by David Marcus in The Federalist. The pair discussed the three white men leading 2020 polls – Biden, Sanders and O’Rourke. When asked if that was a problem, Gillibrand gave a blunt “Yes.”
“There is a risk that many voters will look at conversations like the one between Gillibrand and Jones and at best roll their eyes,” wrote Marcus, “at worst accuse them of divisiveness (where have you heard that term before?) or even racism or sexism.”
Marcus concluded saying, “I deeply hope that a candidate’s race and sex plays an insignificant role, if any, in judging his or her fitness. But what we are hearing from Democrats lately makes me wonder if that will be the case.”
Kramerontheright believes race and sex – diversity – will continue to play a role in the Democrat Party, where symbolism and identity politics are practiced.
NO ACCOUNTABILITY – Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey again refused to accept any accountability for his role in ruining the agency’s reputation. When asked by Fox’s Catherine Herridge if he had anything to do with the FBI’s plummeting reputation, he coldly said, “No.”
He’s still suffering from amnesia, conveniently forgetting his gross mishandling of the Hillary Clinton e-mail case, his lying and leaking, FISA abuse and the obvious bias evidenced in partisan texts exchanged between two of his employees, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, who, among others (McCabe, Baker), were fired or persuaded to resign.

Of course, the ever so arrogant Comey chose to blame the president and Fox News Channel. “The FBI’s reputation has taken a big hit because the president of the United States, with his acolytes, has lied about it constantly,” he said.
“And in the face of those lies, a who lot of good people who watch your network believe that nonsense. That’s a tragedy. That will be undone eventually, but that damage has nothing to do with me,” he added, sounding like Sergeant Schultz of Hogan’s Heroes.
Clearly, Comey has done more to tarnish the reputation of the FBI than J. Edgar Hoover ever contemplated.
GOOD NEWS – Arizona Gov. Doug Doucey appointed Rep. Martha McSally to fill the seat vacated by Sen. John McCain and temporarily held by Jon Kyl. While Kyrsten Sinema was elected to fill the vacancy of Sen. Jeff “The” Flake, the state’s junior senator, she understandably becomes the senior senator, by virtue of her November 6, 2018 election.

RESIDENT TRUMP VISITED ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY without fanfare, accompanied by two military representatives, a small media pool and a representative of the Wreaths Across American organization. He thanked volunteers who came out in pouring rain to lay wreaths at each grave site.
The organization shipped 1.75 million wreaths to 1,640 locations that held ceremonies for the holiday.
CONFUSING FEMALES – You will recall that Hillary Clinton charged that women didn’t have a brain of their own, and voted for Donald Trump because their husband, bosses or sons told them to do so.
Vogue magazine published a piece, “Why Do White Women Keep Voting for the GOP and Against Their Own Interests,“ while other women’s magazines depicted women who vote Republican as deviants.
Barbra Streisand claimed “a lot of women vote the way their husbands vote because they don’t believe enough in their own thoughts.”
So, let me try to make sense of this. As I noted in the lead story above, progressive (liberal) women (Democrats) have started a war against white guys, and now they’re doubling down on conservative women, who are mostly white.
That leaves them with a minority of men, black and Hispanic, and a minority of liberal women of all races. Perhaps they haven’t noticed, however, that blacks and Hispanics, men and women, are moving to the conservative side.
“Progressive women see their intellectual and political leaders glamorized in glossy magazine photo spreads and celebrated on daytime TV talk shows,” Carrie Lukas wrote in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed.
She notes that far-left activists will soon return to Washington to participate in what has been labelled “The Women’s March,” as if they represent the views of all women. You can count on the media to report them as such.
Only liberal women can get away with marginalizing women with different ideologies or political views.
Coming up with the Democrat dream team for 2020 will be a real challenge. It appears that they will need a woman, black or white, and a man of color to satisfy their base, which is currently leaning far-left. Oh my.
REGARDING THE DELAYED SENTENCING of Michael Flynn. All I can say is … how bazaar. Judge Sullivan made some outlandish remarks that he had to walk back. When he asked Flynn if he really wanted to plead guilty, I had the feeling he was trying to tell him something; hinting that he might want to do that. More to come.
