Here are my observations and opinions on my selected news of the day.
HILLARY’S OTHER ESCAPE FROM JUSTICE – On September 11, 2012 our consulate in Benghazi was attacked by a group of Islamic terrorists, and our ambassador, Chris Stevens, Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith, and former Navy Seals Glen Doherty and Tyron Woods lost their lives.
I have written extensively about this tragedy over the past seven years and am convinced that it was then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s dereliction of duty that put these men in danger. She refused to give the ambassador the protection he sought from her.
She failed to heed the warnings to improve security there or call them home. In April, an IED was tossed over the consulate fence, and a few days later a bomb was thrown at a UN convoy. In May, Al Qaeda boasted of its attack on the Benghazi Red Cross office. On June 5, an explosive device was detonated at the gate of the consulate, and although there were no injuries, leaflets promised more attacks on U.S. interests there. On June 10, two Brits were injured following a rocket attack on their convoy 300 yards from their consulate, resulting in the withdrawal of the UK consulate staff from Benghazi.
Clinton was permitted to select the leaders of the Accountability Review investigation – Thomas Pickering and Admiral Mike Mullen – who conducted their review without visiting the attack site or interviewing her.
Their report cited “systematic failures and leadership and management deficiencies at senior level” with no mention of Clinton by name.
Hillary Clinton has escaped justice at least two times, but Americans can be comforted that her effort to win the presidency was thwarted by Donald Trump.
DID YOU SEE how Nicolas Haros, Jr. criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar during the remembrance of those who died in the attack of the World Trade Center. While honoring his mother, who died there, he responded forcefully to Omar’s “some people did something” remarks. Haros boldly told Omar that the “some people” were “Islamic terrorist members of Al Qaeda.”
WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE LEFT that they’ll protest at the drop of the hat, no matter what the issue, because most of those participating don’t even know what they’re protesting, from big marches on Washington and other big cities to futile attempts to stop nominations. Except for an occasional pro-life group, most Republicans just don’t protest, but they respect the First Amendment.
Another example of the crazies on the left was visible in Houston Thursday, site of the latest Democrat presidential debate, where a dozen people have suspended themselves from the Fred Hartman Bridge to protest the use of fossil fuels. Crazy, because the Democrat candidates don’t need convincing; they are already on record to stop the use of fossil fuels.
SPEAKING OF THE LEFT, did you hear Democrat Beto O’Rourke’s latest rant in which he said, “Living close to work shouldn’t be a luxury for the rich. It’s a right for everyone.”
Of course, he tied it to reducing carbon emissions as he made the case for federal spending on mixed-income housing and better public transportation to enable people to live closer to work, thus reducing their carbon footprint, wrote Tristan Justice in The Federalist.
“Rich people are going to have to allow, or be forced to allow, lower-income people to live near them,” he said, adding “we force lower-income working Americans to drive one, two, three hours in either direction to get to their jobs, very often minimum wage jobs,” he declared. He cited that it is not a right protected by the Constitution, but didn’t suggest an amendment.
In case you missed it, O’Rourke thinks the answer to shootings is for the government to buy back assault weapons. The government didn’t buy them in the first place, how can they buy them back? Does he know that there are an estimated 16 million (yes, million) assault weapons out there?
Think about it. Aren’t all weapons assault weapons? Handguns, knives, and axes?
It will be interesting to see what he surfaces in the Thursday night debate. ABC doesn’t have a hook off stage.
PERHAPS YOU’VE HEARD that John Hickenlooper pulled out of the Democrat presidential race on the same day that he would have had to file his financial disclosure forms with the Office of Government Ethics. What you may not know is that he also requested two extensions from the Federal Election Commission.
Should he decide to run for Senate in Colorado, guess what’s going to be on the minds of voters and his opponents, of course.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
