Here are my observations and opinions on my selected news of the day.
THE DOJ IG’S FISA REPORT DUE OUT OCTOBER 18, reports Maria Bartiromo of the Fox Business Channel.
TRUMP VOTERS BEING IMPEACHED – I have frequently written about the left’s disdain for President Trump extending to those of you who put him in office in 2016 and continue to support him.
So, I read with interest, William McGurn’s column, “Impeaching Trump Voters,” in Thursday’s Wall Street Journal.
“It isn’t enough that Mr. Trump be defeated,” McGurn says of the Democrats’ goal, “his whole presidency must be delegitimized – along with the people who voted for him.”
He reminds us of Hillary Clinton’s contempt for you when he told wealthy donors at a Manhattan fundraiser “you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call a basket of deplorables.”
Clinton still gets laughs with her “deplorables” line during chats with her upper-class friends in the Hamptons, Martha’s Vineyard, Beverly Hills and the Silicon Valley.
While the word “deplorables” isn’t used publicly today, McGurn asserts that “the assumption” remains, and cites the accosting of the high-school kid from Covington, Kentucky simply because he was wearing a MAGA cap.
McGurn refers to people of influence who share the view that people who wear MAGA caps are what Clinton says they are, and Trump supporters know their hatred is directed at them as well.
With the election just a year away, what’s the hurry for Democrats to impeach, McGurn asks. “Surely, a president as abominable as this ought to be easy to defeat at the polls. The answer speaks as much to what Democrats think of Trump voters – they don’t trust them – as it does to what they think of Mr. Trump.
The decision to impeach may reflect a lack of Democrat confidence that they can persuade voters who voted for Trump last time to abandon him in 2020. Much of their lack of confidence extends to the electability of their candidates.
ATTORNEY GENERAL BARR is the target of those in the Beltway who fear what he may uncover among those in the Deep State, however, Thomas J. Baker, who served as an FBI agent during Barr’s first stint as AG from 1991-1993, writes in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that he’s “glad he’s back.”
While acknowledging that the FBI’s reputation has been tarnished by the poor leadership of its former director, James Comey, and his sycophants, “Mr. Barr has the character and experience to get the bureau back on track.”
As Barr’s effort now is to learn the predicate – if there was one – for the unprecedented investigation into a U.S. presidential campaign, Comey and former CIA chief John Brennan have publicly questioned his motives.
“They and their media allies warn that declassifying documents from the inquiry would set a dangerous precedent,” noted Baker. “Mr. Barr shows no signs of backing down.”
ANOTHER POLL ON IMPEACHMENT – A FiveThirtyEight.com average of all the impeachment polls finds 46.5 percent for and 44.8 percent against. While 789.1 percent of Democrats want impeachment, the number drops to 41.3 percent for Independents and only 12.5 percent for Republicans.
President Trump was highly critical of a recent impeachment poll that revealed that 52 percent of the respondents wanted him impeached. The poll was heavily weighted with Democrat respondents.
ANOTHER MISINFORMED LETTER-WRITER – In my October 11, 2019 report, I responded to a letter written to the Arizona Republic by an anti-Trumper made up of misinformation.
Coincidentally, I noted a similar letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal by Rosemary C. McDonough of Narberth, Pennsylvania.
Ms. McDonough questioned a WSJ article that indicated President Trump was making an effort to listen to dissatisfied suburban women. Referring to the article as “utterly delusional,” she wrote, “we college-educated, suburban women have been listening to him.”
She then proceeded to say how we listened to him brag about groping women, his dalliances, and even the fact that he was “a thrice married man.” Old news known by voters who elected him in 2016.
She dug up the two-year old story of Trump mocking a Gold Star mother, despite the fact that the story was shot down by a Gold Star father on CNN, no less, who told of his good works for Gold Star families.
She wrote of listening as he tears infants from their mothers at the border, but where was she when the Obama administration was doing this. And where is her outrage over Democrats who refused to recognize the crisis on the border?
“(We listened) when he bows to the NRA to allow the continuing slaughter of our children,” she wrote. But does she grieve when Democrats bow to Planned Parenthood and turn a blind eye to the “slaughter” of infants in abortion clinics?
Unbelievably, she wrote of Trump belittling “a brave, young climate activist (Greta Thunberg). Trump tweeted: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.”
She went on to criticize him for degrading the office of the presidency without giving an example. Seemingly, asking our allies to pay their fair share of their defense costs is tantamount to abandoning them. Speaking kindly or diplomatically with the likes of Kim Jung Un and Xi Ping is “ingratiating himself with foes.
Finally, Ms. McDonough had a bit of wishful thinking – “we are listening for the news that a Democrat candidate has defeated him in a landslide of unprecedented proportions and indeed make America great again.
“Mr. Trump, are you listening?” she concludes.
Kramerontheright views this letter as an insult to thinking suburban women.
REMEMBER THE $91 BILLION of our tax money that was supposed to go to Puerto Rico following hurricanes Maria and Irma?
Two years later, some 62,000 hurricane victims have been denied emergency help for technical reasons. So far, the island only received about $14 billion, according to Sharyl Attkisson, reporting on the issue. The biggest chunk, $5 billion, went to restoring the electrical grid.
While $20 billion has been earmarked for housing and shelter, just $913,000 has been paid out. Blue tarps on missing roof tops, normally usable for 30 days, are still seen all over the island.
Meanwhile, the FBI is investigating a number of allegations of misuse of funds and six top Puerto Rican government officials and consultants have been arrested.
AND THE LEFT GETS UPSET when President Trump comes down hard on nations not paying their fair share. We have learned that the UN may default on its bills by the end of the month unless members – there are 129 – pay their dues, according to Rick Moran of PJ Media.
“To date this year, we have contributed over $600 million to the UN’s peacekeeping operations, and will be providing the vast majority of the $674 million we owe to the 2019 regular budget in the fall,” says Moran. The U.SA. pays approximately 22 percent of the UN’s operating budget.
I AGREE that Apology Joe Biden knew how to kiss Barack Obama’s A**, and that the president’s statement went over big at the Minneapolis rally, and most likely in the homes of supporters across middle America, but it demeans the office of the presidency. He’s hard to control when he’s on a roll.
AND FINALLY, SOME GOOD NEWS for Trump supporters. Shepherd Smith the afternoon anchor on Fox News Channel, announced his departure on Friday. Try as he might, Smith could not disguise his disdain for the president.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
