Here are my observations and opinions on my selected news of the day.
VETERANS DAY – As a veteran, I want to give thanks to the millions of veterans of our Armed Forces, especially the thousands who gave their lives or were wounded in service of our country.
Interestingly, Veterans Day became an official holiday in 1968, when Congress passed the Uniform Holiday Bill, establishing our federal holidays. The fourth Monday of October was the original date selected for Veterans Day, but that didn’t sit well with Americans who recalled the original date of November 11 that reminded them of the World War I armistice – Armistice Day – representing the suspension of fighting the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918.
As a result, President Gerald Ford, on September 25, 1975, signed a law to return the date to November 11, resuming in 1978.
YES, VIRGINIA, THERE IS CORRUPTION in your commonwealth, despite your former governor, Terry McAuliffe’s effort to just wish it away, saying of Gov. Ralph Northam, he is a “great governor doing a great job” and “we’ve moved on” from the blackface photo controversy.
Note that McAuliffe made no mention of Northam’s gruesome discussion of third-trimester abortions and procedures for determining the life and death of an infant after childbirth. That, too, is simply swept under the rug.
Conveniently, Northam was not seen campaigning in support of Democrat candidates. Out of sight, out of mind.
Recall also that Virginia’s lieutenant governor, Justin Fairfax, is still fighting multiple charges of sexual assault.
NOW, GET THIS – Democrat Joe Morrissey, who pled guilty to a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in 2014, and sentenced to 12 months in jail, after have a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old office assistant in his law firm, on Tuesday won his election to the Virginia senate.
AND LEST WE FORGET – It was Clinton confidant McAuliffe, who contributed nearly $500,000 to the campaign of Dr. Jill McCabe, the wife of Andrew McCabe, the FBI official who was overseeing the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server.
LASTLY – Need I remind you that Virginia is the location of bedroom communities for Washington’s Swamp dwellers, primarily career civil service bureaucrats?
I WAS DELIGHTED to learn that Vice President Pence made an appearance at Fort Hood to remember those who fell in the November 6, 2009 Muslim terrorist attack. If you missed my “Special: The 10th Anniversary of ‘Workplace Violence,” see my November 6, 2019 archive.
STOP IT, FOX! I was willing to live with “fair and balanced,” but you are becoming more unfair and unbalanced every day with frequent appearances of former DNC chairwoman Donna Brazile and former state department mouthpiece Marie Harf.
On Sunday, Philippe Reines, long attached to the hip of the Clintons, was permitted to filibuster Howard Kurtz’s Media Buzz on Fox. I’ve said it before, Kurtz should limit his panel to members of the media. No political hacks please.
DAVID BROOKS – You may recall Brooks. He’s the New York Times columnist who still has the gall to call himself a conservative political and cultural commentator. And he’s the writer who embarrassingly wrote that he could tell by the crease in Barack Obama’s pants that he would be a good president.
Appearing on the PBS NewsHour this week to discuss the Schiff testimony, Brooks said, in one breath, “We’re learning the same story over again, but we’re learning it with more evidence, strength and more underlining that quid pro quo really was a quid pro quo. It wasn’t just a phone call. It was not just a few meetings. It was a concerted campaign.”
Those who expected something to stop the presses, got this follow-up from Brooks. “I think we have learned nothing dramatically new. It just reinforced what we already knew.”
He seemingly confirmed the hatred of President Trump by the Deep State, saying, “People are locked in about this guy,” he said of Trump. “Nothing has changed their minds in three years.”
THAT DOJ IG REPORT is “going to be very bad for the people in the Obama administration,” said former deputy attorney general Victoria Toensing during and appearance with her husband Joe diGenova, on Lou Dobbs’ Fox Business show. “I can tell you this, we have darn good sources for this … its’ going to be worse than you can imagine.”
“It’s going to be devastating. It’s going to ruin careers,” added diGenova. “We know that the senior levels of the Obama justice department were complicit in knowingly submitting materially false applications to the FISA court for an illegitimate counterintelligence purpose, not for a legitimate purpose but to spy on American for political purposes,” he said, predicting the beginning of the greatest political scandal in history.
THOSE UNELECTED BUREAUCRATS, mostly career foreign service personnel, who think they are in charge of this country’s foreign policy, not President Trump, have unintentionally blown their cover in the Deep State. Not only are they upset with the new president’s view of foreign policy, they are don’t like his promise to drain the swamp.
No question, they’re unpatriotic. The president has said he doesn’t know most of these people.
For three years Democrats and the media have been mocking Republican claims of a Deep State conspiracy theory. Do they now see the irony in the group of these unelected “unfireables” coming forth to give depositions against the president’s phone call with Ukraine President Zelensky?
Well, leave it to the New York Times to now agree with the president about the existence of the Deep State, noted Joe diGenova. “The newspaper’s opinion page screamed that ‘President Trump is right: The Deep State is alive and well’ and hailed the Deep State moles, who supposedly didn’t exist a month ago, as heroes.” Activist journalism in action.
LEAVING NO STONE UNTURNED, President Trump travelled to Atlanta to meet with about 400 “Black Voices for Trump” supporters to remind them of his work to improve their job and wage opportunities and made an appeal to them to abandon their traditional support for Democrat candidates.
“You don’t have to leave the Democrat Party,” he said, “because it left you a long time ago.”
ORTHODOX JEWS in New York City have invited Trump to speak at the luncheon of their America First Action SuperPAC tomorrow. The group is expected to raise millions for the president’s reelection campaign.
As you know, the Jewish vote has traditionally gone to the Democrat Party.
AND FINALLY, ANOTHER GREAT TRUTH: “I don’t make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.” – Will Rogers
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
