COMMENTARY: Biden Administration’s Foreign Policy Off to a Rocky Start … China Pokes Its Finger in Our Eye

BIDEN’S TEAM TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS – President Biden’s Obama and Clinton hand-me-down foreign policy representatives – Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan – had their hats handed to them during talks with the Chinese communists in Anchorage, Alaska.

“I don’t think the overwhelming majority of countries in the world would recognize the universal values advocated by the United States or that the viewpoint of the United States could represent international public opinion,” said  Yang Jiechi, a member of the Chinese Communist Party’s Politburo, reportedly a clear indication that the CCP will no longer abide by the rules set by the United States.

“The United States does not have the qualification to say that it wants to speak from a position of strength,” Jiechi boldly stated.

“What the United States should do is to … mind its own business … rather than making irresponsible remarks about China’s human rights and democracy,” Jiechi said in response to issues raised by the U.S. delegation – the Uyghurs, Hong Kong, cyberattacks and aggression against Taiwan.

After commenting that the United State “has its own human rights problems to deal with,” citing the recent Black Lives Matter protests, Jiechi claimed that the Chinese people wholeheartedly support the CCP’s leadership and China’s political system and any attempt to change it would be futile.

How do you suppose the rest of the world – Europe and Saudi Arabia viewed China’s manhandling of Biden’s foreign policy team? Does Iran sense a weakness and feel more emboldened now?  And, will Biden’s three stumbles on the stairs while boarding Air Force One give them cause to worry?

While the two sides agreed to set up teams to discuss climate change, if the tone of this meeting tell us anything, we shouldn’t expect China, the big polluter, to comply with the Paris Accord any time soon.

Americans expect the president to gather input from his appointees and advisors as he considers the issue at hand and decides what his course of action will be. President Trump had his own thoughts on issues going in and was able to question those around him.  In addition, he had a capable secretary of state in Mike Pompeo, who knows what happens when you project weakness.

It’s hard for me to believe Biden is capable of doing that; especially in the foreign policy arena, where his record is dismal.  Couple that with an inexperienced vice president in Kamala Harris and his questionable cabinet picks, and I worry about our future.

THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION – Normally, I wouldn’t give too much thought about appointments of individuals to a new administration, however, given the fact that President Biden cannot even perform the role of a figurehead, it is imperative that you know who will be making the decisions.

From his first days in office, we saw evidence of what we expected of this man, who nearly everyone knew simply didn’t have what it takes to be president of the United States.

He was so anxious to reverse policies of the Trump administration that he gave no thought to killing the Keystone XL pipeline and the thousands of jobs depending on it.  As he was signing the executive order he was heard mumbling, “I don’t know what I’m signing here.”

He has signed more than 60 orders and memorandums, a third of which were direct reversals of Trump policies, claiming that “99 percent of them were counterproductive to our security, counterproductive to who we are as a country, particularly in the area of immigration.”

Not only has he not faced the media in a full-fledged press conference, he has repeatedly made embarrassing statements while making announcements.  He couldn’t remember the name of his secretary of defense or the Pentagon, while Gen. Lloyd Austin stood nearby.

Several times now, he has referred to “president” Harris, or the Harris-Biden administration.

He is so unsure of the facts and the points he wants to make in non-teleprompter situations, he holds “cheat” cards; they were even seen during a recent interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC News. He tries to pass them off to reminders of Chinese virus deaths, but we know there’s more.

ADMINITRATION CONFIRMATIONS – Confirmed to be secretary for Health and Human Services 50-49 was Xavier Becerra, who has no medical experience, but a record of promoting leftist social issues, including abortion and inhibiting religious freedom … When AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce approved of Biden’s pick of Kathrine Tai as his U.S. Trade Representative, who was confirmed by a 98-0 vote, I get concerned … also confirmed was William J. Burns to head the CIA with no intelligence agency experience … and it appears that Biden wants former astronaut and Florida Senator Bill Nelson, 78, to lead NASA.

Now more than ever … may God continue to bless the United States of America.
