Here are my observations and opinions from my select news of the day.

THE SIX-MONTH WAR GLOSSARY – In my last two editions I began using wartime terms to describe the activities of war, fitting as President Trump has declared himself a “wartime president,” leading the war against the coronavirus – the “invisible enemy.”  Unfortunately, he has another enemy, leftists and Republican anti-Trumpers, who make up the “resistance.” They’re attacking on a second front to prevent his reelection in six months.

Since most of the activities I report on are related to one front or the other, you may tire of the usage of war terms.  Clearly, the “resistance” recognizes this is their last gasp attempt to unseat President Trump.

While Trump’s crushing blow to Hillary Clinton in 2016 was historical, I believe the 2020 election will be the most consequential election in modern history. We need a second Trump-Pence victory to restore our economy, as only they are capable of doing.

SUPPORT FROM AN ALLY – Mathew Whitaker, a former U.S. attorney and acting attorney general prior to the naming of Bill Barr, used his Justice Department background in the writing of a timely book that is sure to reveal how the Deep State, the “resistance” working within the government, targeted Donald Trump.

Whitaker has been a regular contributor of justice insight on Fox News Channel since leaving DOJ.

“As a longtime professional staff of the Justice Department privately acknowledged to me,” Whitaker writes, “the arrogance characteristic of the Obama administration, personified by his first attorney general Eric Holder, created an above-the-law culture inside the Justice Department.”

For those of you have recognized that some people seem to be above the law, this book, “Above the Law: The Inside Story of How the Justice Department Tried to Subvert President Trump,” should be on your “must read” list.

RESISTANCE FORCES, including Nancy Pelosi, New York Democrat Eliot Engel, and New Jersey Democrat Sen. Robert Menendez, jumped on President Trump’s decision to fire State Department IG Steve Linick, even though he was free to do so.

Engel called Linick’s dismissal an “outrageous act of a president trying to protect one of his most loyal supporters, the secretary of state, from accountability.”

HMMMMM, I wonder what Engel said in 2009 when President Obama fired IG Gerald Walpin, who had pursued an investigation of Kevin Johnson, the former NBA star and Sacramento mayor, who was a supporter of President Obama.

I FOUND IT INTERESTING that Matt Tiabbi, contributing editor of Rolling Stone, wrote a piece in his newsletter, Substack, critical of Judge Emmet G. Sullivan’s delaying tactic in the Michael Flynn case and chiding the media liberals for supporting Sullivan, including Jeffrey Toobin of CNN, MSNBC’s Glenn Kirschner, and the New Yorker.

“Sullivan’s decision was the kind of thing one would expect from a judge in Belarus,” he wrote.

He reflected a disdain for the former intelligence “all-stars like John Brennan, James Clapper and Michael Hayden” saying “there are too many spooks on CNN and MSNBC to count.”

In his feature article, “Democrats Have Abandoned Civil Liberties: The Blue Party’s Trump-era Embrace of Authoritarianism Isn’t Just Wrong, It’s a Fatal Political Mistake,” Tiabbi unloads on the leaks and the underhanded tactics in the Flynn case.

He refers to the Laurel and Hardy team of agents who conducted the interview of Flynn and the fact that it took three weeks to write and rewrite multiple versions of the interview notes.

“We just found out in newly-released testimony by (Andrew) McCabe that the FBI felt as early as the summer of 2016 that the evidence ‘didn’t particularly indicate’ that (George) Papadopoulos was ‘interacting with the Russians.’”

Unexpectedly, Tiabbi drifted into the civil liberties being lost due to the lockdowns. “The (virus) crisis is also raising serious civil liberties issues

ANOTHER SURPRISE ARTICLE appeared in The Atlantic.  Emily Oster, a Brown University economist, authored a piece, “The ‘Just Stay Home’ Message Will Backfire: We need less extreme and more nuanced recommendations for navigating life during the pandemic.”

She writes how, for months, Americans have been told over and over to stay home to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“The message is true,” she notes. “If we stay hermetically sealed in our homes for long enough, the virus will die out; if we don’t, it will linger. But framing the message in such a stark way may inadvertently encourage people to make choices. Stark messaging may also discourage people from taking reasonable precautions.

“As the economy reopens, it makes sense to communicate a range of risks, and to speak in terms of probabilities rather than binaries.” While staying at home and not seeing anyone is the safest way to avoid the virus, suggests Oster, but there’s the alternative of seeing people at a distance.

She explains the importance of instructing people to wash their hands, and why it’s important.  “People need to be less afraid, but more careful,” she suggests.

OPPOSITION FOLDS – Although Justin Amash’s candidacy for president on the Libertarian Party ticket wasn’t taken seriously, the former Michigan Republican has “concluded that circumstances don’t lend themselves to my success as a candidate for president this year, and therefore I will not be a candidate.”

SUPPORT FOR GOP FEMALE RECRUITS – You should be aware that a record number of female candidates have filed to run for House seats in November.  Of the 490 women who have filed, 295 are Democrats and 195 are Republicans.  The numbers could grow since a dozen states are still open for filing.  It’s vital that we support Republican women in House (and Senate) races.
