In posts on May 6 and 8, I gave you my view of the Paul Ryan-Donald Trump meeting, predicting much ado about nothing, while talking heads hyped it for all it’s worth. Continue reading

Columnist Dennis Prager paints dark picture of America with Clinton or Trump
As a political news wonk, who has become extremely discouraged with much of the American public and their fascination with Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton for that matter, I was drawn to “A Dark Time in America,” a recent column by Dennis Prager. Continue reading
Obama touts his economics prowess despite a meager growth report
“Saving the world economy from a Great Depression, that was pretty good.” – President Obama
Speaking of his legacy, successes and frustrations at a Youth Town Hall in London on April 23, 2016, the president boasted about his handling of the economy, among other issues and events, during his two terms in office despite miserable growth numbers. Continue reading
The ‘not I’ business community needs to step up
Regular readers of this blog will recall my frequent criticism of businesses that get in bed with big government. We’ve seen it with automobile manufacturers and café standards. We saw pharmaceuticals and various health entities support ObamaCare. And we’ve witnessed energy firms jump on the climate change train. Continue reading
Verizon, Ohio State University grow a spine; tradition at The Citadel challenged
How refreshing it was to hear stories of two individuals, a CEO and a university vice president, who refused to be intimidated and spoke clearly for the entities they represent. Too often we read about companies and colleges who bow to “political correctness” and the fear of a lawsuit. Continue reading
Ordering an automobile you haven’t driven and may not see for two years

People stand in line to put down a $1,000 deposit on the new Tesla Model 3 in Scottsdale. (joeycarrera /the republic)
When I saw the photograph of people waiting in line at the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall (some since 3 a.m.) to put $1,000 down on a car they will not see for more than a year, the Tesla Model 3, a number of thoughts crossed my mind.
Who are these people, I thought, who would buy a pig in the poke? My father used to echo the saying, there’s a sucker born every minute, but I’m not sure these people fall in the category. They obviously have the money to do so. Continue reading
European regulators waking up to financial effects of reducing carbon emissions
While President Obama supports the warming of global temperature scare being foisted upon us by environmentalists, the European financial sector has begun looking at the risks associated with the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Continue reading
Observing the 2016 presidential campaign
Trump dismisses Christie – While telling the crowd that it was Gov. Chris Christie’s endorsement that he really wanted, after being introduced by him in Millington, Tennessee, Donald Trump unceremoniously dismissed him on the tarmac, saying, “get on the plane and go home … it’s over there.” Continue reading
The question marks around Trump
“Mr. Trump has no policy anchor; his political strategy is to rile up the ignorami. – Holman W. Jenkins, Jr., columnist.
In the lead-up to the Iowa caucuses, I listened to Iowans give their views of the presidential candidates. While many of them didn’t shy away from saying why they were supporting others who really have no chance there, Donald Trump has obviously stirred those who are simply fed up with Washington’s ways.
His promise to make America great again has struck a high note with voters even though they have no idea how he would be as president. While they seem to think they have nothing to lose, many of us know better. Beyond his worn out sound bites on the wall, deporting illegals and China, we haven’t heard any specifics on a Trump administration agenda. Continue reading
Obama continues war on coal industry
In recent posts I have written about President Obama’s seven-year hatred of the coal industry despite the fact that coal has supplied us with the cheapest energy and still produces about a third of America’s energy.
Further evidence of his 2008 threat to bankrupt coal companies was revealed this week when Arch Coal filed for Chapter 11 protection, following the earlier filings of Patriot Coal, Walter Energy and Alpha Natural Resources. The actions of Obama and his compliant EPA have killed some 40,000 lower and middle class jobs during his tenure. Continue reading
