Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) announced she will not seek reelection in 2016.  It’s appropriate, I think, that the signal memory of her is one that clearly illustrates the arrogance of this egotistical, liberal senator.  It was in June 2009, during testimony by Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh of the Army Corps of Engineers, when he addressed her as “ma’am.”   Senator Boxer immediately interrupted him saying, “Do me a favor, can you say ‘senator’ instead of ‘ma’am?’”  Continuing, she said, “It’s just that I worked hard to get that title, so I’d appreciate it.  Thank you.” Click here if you want to see it.

Obama’s warm-up for State of the Union address

President Obama made no mention of the failure of automakers to put a million electric cars on the road by 2015 during his visit to Ford this week. (Cartoon courtesy Michael Ramierez, IBD)

Understanding that many of you may not have noticed, President Obama made stops in three states this week to do warm-up speeches in preparation for his State of the Union address, here are the low-lights.

Speaking at a Ford plant in Detroit, he again credited his steps to rescue the economy and rebuild it on a new foundation, stating that we are entering the New Year with new confidence that America is coming back.

“You don’t have to take my word for it.  The facts are the facts,” he stated while touting his administration’s statistics on job creation and unemployment.

Missing, however, was his glowing vision of the electric car market.  Could it be the reason that Ford and the other manufacturers have fallen far short of his goal of having a million of them on the road by 2015?  Some 850,000 short.

Having “invested” $8 billion in taxpayer funds, the president quietly shelved his goal.  The lower price of gas at the pump is sure to further reduce electric car sales. Continue reading →

A $3,000 incentive to hire illegals

“The steps we took early on to rescue our economy and rebuild it on a new foundation helped make 2014 the strongest year for job growth since the 1990s.  All told, over a 57-month streak, our businesses have created nearly 11 million new jobs.”

President Obama opened his last press conference for 2014 with that boastful statement, and when he took questions, not a single White House correspondent challenged him on jobs or the economy, and the fact that the middle class isn’t experiencing the rosy picture he paints.

They could have queried him about the 70 million Americans who are not working, the miserable unemployment rate being experienced among Blacks, or perhaps, they could have asked him to explain the “new foundation” to which he referred.

I would have liked to have had the opportunity to ask him about the hiring of illegals.  Earlier this month it was revealed that a loophole in the Affordable Health Care Act (ObamaCare) makes the five million illegal immigrants more attractive to businesses as new hires.  Because the illegals are ineligible for ObamaCare, businesses wouldn’t be required to pay the $3,000 penalty for not providing them health coverage. China reneges on climate accord

There they were, President Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping, all smiles during last month’s APEC summit meeting in Beijing, after signing a commitment to limit greenhouse gas emissions by 2025-2030.

The sight of the two leaders agreeing on the reduction of fossil fuels had to thrill the low-information crowd and, of course, the “greenies.” … read more

Alternative energy costing us billions

Typically, the average individual pays little attention when the EPA announces it’s  preparing to release new energy regulations as it did last month.  Figures on ppb (parts per billion), job equivalents, compliance costs, and the effect on gdp (gross domestic product) are lost on most of us.

I have a hunch, however, that the two accompanying headlines appearing in the past two days just might get their attention. When the cost of alternate energy production hits homeowners, they’ll begin to question the bill of goods promoted by big government.

WSJ HeadAR Head0019“Thirty years and billions of dollars later, the wind industry is still saying it needs taxpayer support,” according to the Wall Street Journal, as economic viability is still years off.  Wind energy lobbyists are seeking a renewal of the production tax credit, where taxpayers have, probably unbeknownst to them, contributed $7.3 billion over the past seven years.  I’m sure the wind power generator manufacturers and wind producers appreciate how gullible we are. Put it in writing, Mr. President

Each year, the Speaker of the House of Representatives extends an invitation to the president to present his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress.

I find it ironic that the  purpose of the presentation is to allow the president to outline his legislative agenda, for which he asks Congress’ approval.

If ever there was a time for the Speaker to ask the president to submit his January report in writing, it is now.  Speaker John Boehner should respond to President Obama’s arrogant, open rebuke of Congress, whether it is his stonewalling Congressional investigating committees or the recent go-it-alone decision on immigration.

And let’s not forget how the president used his 2010 address to chastise the Supreme Court over the Citizens’ United decision.  The rude statement served to spur Democrats to intimidate the IRS into targeting conservative groups seeking tax exemption.

I don’t expect this to happen.  The GOP is too skiddish.  Remember how they got blamed for the government shutdown?  Standing up for your principles these days is interpreted as being “mean-spirited.” Continue reading →

GOP outlines its priorities

“I believe Republicans can win in the mid-terms without a grand 1994 Gingrich-style Contract With America, but they will need a clearly stated agenda come 2016.”
