Obama rebuffed again on appointment

I found it interesting to read the editorial, “Obama’s Lawless Labor Board,” in today’s Wall Street Journal.

First, because it points once again to the culture of corruption in the Obama administration. The editorial describes how a federal appeals court struck down a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruling because its acting general counsel was in the job illegally.… read more

Obama getting a pass for actions similar to those that ended Nixon’s presidency

“The painful fact is that Barack Obama is the president that Nixon always wanted to be,” – Jonathan Turley, constitutional law expert

While perusing the daily newspaper this morning, my attention was drawn to the This Day in History column featuring President Richard Nixon’s Aug. 8, 1974 resignation.

Over the years I have often considered Nixon’s transgressions to be foolish and clumsy to say the least, but it led to his impeachment and key members of his administration went to jail.

Hardly a day goes by, however, that I don’t see the actions of President Obama equally or more egregious than those of Nixon. But when you look back to the 1970s, reporters Woodward and Bernstein had the backing of their powerful newspaper, The Washington Post, to uncover the deeds of Nixon and his men.

You can ask, where the Woodward’s and Bernstein’s are today, but you soon come to your senses and realize that Nixon openly scorned the media and President Obama owns the media. Today, The Washington Post might tweak the Obama administration by giving the president or Hillary Clinton four Pinocchio’s. Continue reading

Finally, teachers are saying “no” to the NEA

rebecca frederichs (reason.com)

Orange County California teacher Rebecca Friedrichs’ name appears in the case to be reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court. (reason.com)

Word that the Supreme Court will hear Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association in October was welcome news to this writer. For years I have been writing op-eds and letters to editors about the use of union dues to fund political candidates and issues. It amounts to political extortion.

In a piece I wrote four years ago, “Teachers Unite,” I included the following quote from a farewell speech given by National Education Association (NEA) retiring general counsel Bob Chanin. In view of the renewed effort by California teachers, it needs to be reprinted here.

Posing the question as to why the NEA has been such an effective organization, Chanin said,

“It is not because of creative ideas, it is not because of the merit of our position, it is not because we care about children, it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. The NEA and its affiliates are effective because we have power and we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year because they believe we are the union that can most effectively represent them, the union that can protect their rights and advance their interests as education employees.”

At the conclusion of his speech, I had a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach as teachers in the audience wildly applauded. You can see the speech by clicking here. Continue reading

Myth of no equal pay for women debunked

We have laws on the books to cover illegal immigration, the registration of guns, the use of marijuana and any number of issues of the day, but the government chooses not to enforce them, unless it suits them.

Now Hillary Clinton is picking up the Obama mantra that we need to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. She blames its failure on Republicans who do not support equal pay for equal work for women. Not true. It’s just that Republicans recognize that equal pay for women has been the law of the land for more than a half-century.

Typical of the low-information crowd, Patricia Arquette perpetuated the myth and needed a script at the Oscars to say, “It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America.” (usmagazine.com)

While Democrats continue to support the myth that women earn just 77 cents for every dollar a man earns, since 1963 it has been unlawful for an employer to pay a female less than a male employee for equal work. In addition, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits sex discrimination in wages. And, workers employed by a government contractor or subcontractor, like Boeing, are covered by Executive Order 11,246, which prohibits gender-based pay discrimination.

In addition, 46 states also have antidiscrimination laws mandating equal pay for equal work. Continue reading

Will Obama’s intimidation of the court backfire?

In a January post, I indicated my concern that the Supreme Court would decide in favor of the administration in King v Burwell, the ObamaCare case challenging an IRS rule granting tax credits to individuals in the 34 states that didn’t adopt a state exchange.

My position hasn’t changed in the subsequent six months.  Perhaps it’s the unending string of bad news emanating from the nation’s capital that causes my pessimism.

The president, obviously concerned that his already crumbling key piece of legislation will go down in a court decision, soon to be announced, has again directed unprecedented criticism toward the court.

During a press conference at the G-7 summit in Germany earlier this month, he suggested the court would be ignoring established legal guidance if it ruled against the administration.  “This should be an easy case, “he said, “frankly it probably should have stayed out of this fight.”  So much for our Constitutional genius in the White House.

Speaking at the Catholic Health Association conference,  he warned, “Do they (the court) really wish to cause the massive societal upheaval that would come from killing a law that is now a routine part of American life?” Continue reading

Democrats fail in another major city

“Deadly month sees 35 killings in Baltimore.”

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake proves she’s in over her head. (nbcnews.com)

When I saw that headline I couldn’t help but remember the gratuitous statement made by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake at the National Action Network gathering held just after the riots.

“If, with the nation watching, three black women at three different levels can’t get justice and healing for this community, you tell me where we’re going to get it in our country,” said the mayor, referring to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, and herself.

On May 26, with the news of 35 homicides in Baltimore- the city’s deadliest month since 1999 – she sent her spokesman to say that she is “disheartened and frustrated by this continuing violence, particularly when you think about the progress that the city has made.”

First Lady plays the race card

Did you hear about the First Lady playing the race card at the dedication of the Whitney Museum in New York?

In 2008, I wonder many voters thought the election of black president would put an end to the racial divide they imagined in this country.  Actually, he’s made matters worse as he sends in his Department of Justice; first Eric Holder and now Loretta Lynch, to interfere in state and local matters.

Enter the First Lady, Michele Obama.  Speaking at the dedication of the $429 million Whitney museum, she told the assembled audience that museums and other cultural centers are really only welcoming to white people.

“You see, there are so many kids in this country who look at places like museums and concert halls and other cultural centers and they think to themselves, well, that’s not a place for me, for someone who looks like me, for someone who comes from my neighborhood,” she said.  “In fact, I guarantee you that right now, there are kids living less than a mile from here who would never in a million years dream that they would be welcome in this museum,” she added. Did you hear the one about no scandals in the Obama White House?

“I’m proud of the fact that basically you’ve had an administration that’s been in place for six years in which there hasn’t been a major scandal … and I think that says a lot about the ethical strictures of this administration.” – David Axelrod, former advisor to President Obama

Those were the words of Axelrod during a session at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. … read more

Fox’s Jeanine Pirro tells it like it is

Jeanine Pirro tells it like it is on her Fox program, Justice with Judge Jeanine. (energytimes.com)

It’s unfortunate that Judge Jeanine Pirro’s program appears on Fox on Saturday night, when most people are having dinner out or are engaged in another social event.

While we frequently look to Charles Krauthammer or George Will to give us a commentary that clearly states a crisis and how we need to face it, I was duly impressed by Pirro’s opening statement on Feb. 7.  Please take seven minutes of your time to listen.  Click here.

NBC’s Brian Williams to take some time off

While NBC’s management is investigating the material used by its Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, Williams is going to take some time off.  While he does, rumors are already flying that Katie Curic is waiting in the wings.

Most people don’t realize that while Williams is the anchor of Nightly News, he is more than a “news reader.”  He is the program’s managing editor, which makes him the decision maker on what airs and what doesn’t.  Hmmmm Continue reading
