‘Trump card’ played … yellow journalism in Arizona … Pelosi unhinged … Trump right on China trade … billions lost to our economy through foreign remittances … Harris wrong again … AOC insults supporters … and Hillary rakes in millions from DNC

Here are my observations and opinions on my selected news of the day.

AS I WAS ABOUT TO POST THIS, President Trump played his “Trump Card,” authorizing Attorney General Bill Barr to declassify documents associated with the investigation of his campaign. Doing it on a Thursday night, as all of the lawmakers head out of Washington for the Memorial Day weekend, was a brilliant move.

THE LEFT-LEANING ARIZONA REPUBLIC again shows its colors – yellow – as in yellow journalism.

Within an hour after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s press conference, in which she accused President Trump of engaging in a cover-up, she unbelievably expected a welcome by the president when she arrived at the White House to meet on infrastructure.

He calmly told her he wanted to discuss infrastructure, but could not do so under the cloud of the phony investigations that led her to cover-up charge, and walked out of the room.

The Republic’s page one, above the fold, story carried a one-word headline in 72-point type font – WALKOUT. The four-paragraph story failed to mention Pelosi’s accusation. `An accompanying piece on page 6 didn’t mention Pelosi’s accusation until the fourth paragraph, but quoted her as saying it was all “very, very, very strange,” and added that she was praying for Trump and the nation in the lead-in.

“If Nancy Pelosi is praying for you, you’re already dead,” – Mary Anne Marsh, Democrat strategist

In the Wall Street Journal, which leans left in its news pages, at least mentioned the Pelosi accusation in its subhead, and referred to it in the second paragraph.

MEANWHILE, the headline in The Washington Times (where journalism is still practiced) read, “Trump sends Democratic leaders packing after Pelosi’s accusation of cover-up,” and it’s lead paragraph stated: “A visibly disgusted President Trump said Wednesday that he won’t work with Democrats while they are seeking to impeach him, cutting short a meeting with Democrat leaders at the White House and vowing to go it alone until Democrats finish their ‘phony investigations.’”

After being turned away at the White House, Speaker-in-name-only Pelosi returned to the microphones to further insult the president with, “Maybe it was the lack of confidence on his part that he really couldn’t match the challenge.”

And, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who tagged along with Pelosi, dug into his bag of quotes to add, “To watch what happened in the White House would make your jaw drop.”

At a press conference Thursday, the president called upon a half dozen staffers, who were present when he left the meeting, to comment on his demeanor; all of whom said he was calm. Sarah Sanders evoked a laugh when she commented that he was calm, adding that she had experienced his other side.

We all know that Pelosi had met with her radical leftists, and made the cover-up accusation to mollify those pushing for impeachment of the president. She could have saved her remark for later in the day, after that all-important meeting with the president on infrastructure.

“Pelosi’s ‘cover up’ remark is just ‘part of her now daily act of political cognitive dissonance in which she accuses Mr. Trump of committing impeachable offenses to appease her anti-Trump ultras while opposing impeachment lest it jeopardize in 2020.” – The Wall Street Journal editorial board

COLUMNIST THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN of the New York Times had to swallow deeply to say something good about President Trump, but he did in his column, “China Deserves Donald Trump,” but there it was. “Trump’s instinct that America needs to rebalance it trade relationship with Beijing – before China got too big to compromise – is correct. And it took a human wrecking ball like Trump to get China’s attention. But now that we have it, both countries need to recognize just how pivotal this moment is.”

Friedman indicated that he spoke with a U.S. businessman friend who works in China who remarked that Donald Trump is not the American president America deserves, but he sure is the American president China deserves.

“The original U.S.-China opening back in the 1970s defined our restore trade ties, which were limited,” Friedman acknowledged, “ When we let China join the World Trade Organization in 2001, it propelled China into a trading powerhouse under rules that still gave China lots of concessions as developing country.

“This is no ordinary trade dispute,” he wrote, “This is the big one.”

THOSE REMITTANCES – Regular readers will recall my references to the billions of dollars Mexicans, illegal and illegal, send back home, most frequently by Western Union. Mexico was the primary beneficiary of U.S. remittance transfers of some $30 billion (yes, billion) in 2017.

Reporting on a new study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a non-partisan public interest group, Jennifer Harper of the Washington Times wrote that $150 billion in remittances were sent to the home countries of foreign-born workers in the United States.

This represents a direct loss to our economy, siphoning off valuable capital and reducing government revenues.”

In contrast, Americans residing abroad only sent home $6.5 billion in 2017.

AOC (AP/J. Scott Applewhite)

HOW ABOUT AOC? … you know who I’m talking about … after scaring gullible Democrats with her claim that if we don’t do something about climate change, the world will end in 12 years caused a staggering 67 percent of Democrats to believe her, she insults them with her remark, “You’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal,” alluding to it as a joke, according to Matt Margolis in PJ Media reporting on a Rasmussen poll.

KAMALA HARRIS, the wacko California Democrat candidate for president, continues to move further to the left with her views of a Harris presidency. Her latest policy proposal would penalize businesses that fail to demonstrate pay equity, but without contextualizing salary data for merit and experience.

“The plan combines the heavy hand of government with a mission that’s near-impossible to implement effectively,” wrote Josh Kraushaar in his National Journal piece, “Kamala Harris Is Undermining Her Campaign.”

HILLARY CLINTON is raking in millions from the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee, which works to elect Democrats to the House, according to Federal Election Commission filings reported by Joe Schoffstall in the Washington Free Beacon.

The DCCC has so far paid Clinton’s resistance group, Onward Together, a non-profit, $3 million for its e-mail lists. In addition, the DNC paid $1.65 million to her for list acquisitions.

May God bless the United States of America.
